62 knuckles

I am currently tring to do the disk brake conv. from a '89 FJ62 to my '70 FJ40.
Do you have to grind off the lower part of the knuckle like the mini truck knuckles? I did a search and all I could find was mini truck knuckle swaps. I was told by several people that the 62 knucles would work, but I am having some issues.

Grind off the lower part of the knuckle?

No, you should just have to clearance the inner bottom of the ball on the end of the actual axlehousing. No grinding on the knuckle or any of the FJ62 parts. Only on the old FJ40 housing.

Yup the 62 disks install the same as the mini's, same grinding on the 78' on down axel housings. I have a set of 1990 62's on my 79'. Good stuff.

Here is mine -
Note you grind on the inside of the knuckle. FJ60/2 and mini truck birfields are the same size if not the same exact units AFAIK...

Oh ya.

As you grind remember to NOT make it so a 79+ birf just barley clears. Give your self an extra 1/6” to 1/8” of room. If that birf ever splits the bell and does not fully shatter you will be cursing that thing on the trail trying to get it out! A split bell brake makes the bell larger and normally just blinders the inner star and cage beyond recognition.
Larger bell due to split + tight fit grind = *%&$^#* on the trail.
