Just got done putting my 74 head on my '77 block, and have a couple of issues. The back 2 head bolts won't tighten down. They are tight, but the bolts aren't flush with the head. I need to replace 3 of the head bolts anyway, but looking at SOR, the '74 has unique bolts (5 3/4"). Do I need these bolts for the back?

Also, I have 2 of my pushrods that don't seat like they should. They stick up about 1/2" above the others. they are on different cylinders. Any idea why they are up??

Pushrods might be up due to cam position???

My guess too. Should be at least one intake and one exhaust open at any given time [not on the same cylinder of course]

Definitely do NOT want the 74 head bolts UNLESS you're putting them in a 74 block. In the first, transition year to the newer oiling system, the engineers over-engineered the block to make sure that they wouldn't have any issues with the head gasket's integrity handling the new duty as part of the oil passage. By 75 they were confident enough to return to standard head bolt length.

I throw head bolts away every month because I never sell them. I would be happy to send you 2 or three for the cost of postage. Call me at the shop. My PM box is full thanks to spam from dd113!

Make sure the cam oil pasage works to. I got a 66 someone put 2f head on and never hooked op oil to top end.ran fine till it wore out cam assb.
