Lookin at a '89 FJ62, 146K mi

Tell me a lil about this truck. 146K, How many miles are left? She apperars to have been well cared for by one owner. $7988, fair? I would like to clear 33's, will they fit stock or do they make lifts for these? Any recurring probs on these? Do they tow worth a damn (2 horse trailer).Any info would be great.

Thanks.

depends on the maintence it has had, but I have a 88 fj62 with 350,000 and Connies DD 90 fj62 has 250,000 and runs and drives like new, it was a SUPER well maintened one owner cruiser when we got it almost 2 years ago.

yes 33x9.5;s will fit on the stock suspension, we love the tire combo on it.

yes they make lifts for it, same as a fj60 suspension.

For 8k you could buy a 93 or 94 80 series with lockers and nice coils, rear disc brakes, fullfloater rear, etc.... To go with new springs and shocks is just over $700 for a similar setup on a 60 62 you can double that number. That price is too high in my opinion.

I agree with Eric here, worth about half that I'd say.

That may be the case on the east coast, but in SoCal, FJ62s can be found listed at $3k-$15k, and regularly selling in the $8k range for clean ones.

I think the over 8k days of FJ62s are very limited even in So Cal. A really low mileage stock one or an extremely well built one might fetch more. With the price of 80s dropping so much the 62s are falling fast too. I wouldn't expect to pay more than $5-6k for one as described.

Back to the towing part which I missed before. They suck at towing!!! You can add the heaviest OME and they still suck at towing. The wheelbase is too short. I towed a two horse trailer with my FJ60 with a 350TBI and a host of other mods and it still didn't handle a 2 horse trailer very well. Actually, it did OK empty, but put the horses in and the trailer really pushed it around. I tried load leveling hitches, etc... I now tow the same trailer with my wifes 94 80 stock and it does OK. It still isn't wonderful.

In Idaho that price is high, and since prices for Cruisers are high in Idaho, I would pass.
