Fullsize 1-ton GM axles on a stock FJ60
Need some info on putting a 8 lug 14bolt and Dana 60 from a 70's K20 on a stock FJ60. Whats it gonna take?
Oh and first post, awsome site. Looking for some info on a spring project I want to do. Fullsize axles, bobbed rear, lockers, crossover steering and a 350 in a good condition FJ60. James

I plan on running 36's, I want the fullsize axles. Once the 350 is in I don't imagine the Toy axles will handle the mud bogging and rockcrawling I want it for. Also plan to bob the rear, gut the interior and install a strong cage/bumpers. The future will bring big tires and more hp. I want fullsize axles so i dont have to fawk with them in the future.
Is it as simple as I think, just make spring mounts for the fullsize axles and bolt them on? Aside from the steering and driveshafts of course. |

thats about it, just put the purches on, and weld er up. then you will have to adapt a toyota end on the drive shaft. and hook up some steering.
not too dificult. oh, and dont worry about all these slackers, they were all newbies at one time SHane

If you are looking for somthing thats already set up for 1tons,hydro,GM V8, bobtailed. The body is kinda beat but a new set of fenders and a little TLC it would look awesome. I will be selling the body and frame as you see it here soon, for cheep. I hate to take this baby apart but its replacment is just bad to the bone!

I'll double check the badges on the K truck and figure out for sure that its what I need. I know it has a 14bolt, a 3/4 ton 8 lug 44 wouldn't be a bad swap. |

If you're gonna do all the work, don't fuck around with a 44. Put in a 60. K30s had a perfect donor axle. |

Its not so cut and dry as explaned by "paranoid56" If you use a 60 the pirch on the drivewr side is cast into the differential so you pretty much have to move your spring hangers out about 1.5 inches on both sides. The back just cut and weld. If you have a 44 insted of a 60 I would not even wast my time a 44 is no stronger than cruiser with longs. go D60 or go home!

Also what Tcase? if you keep the FJ60 case you are going to have a centerd 14B so you have to do a case or build an off set 14 bolt. Just some more stuff to think about.

I'm going 1-ton on my FJ55. This is what I've done / I'm doing:
Maybe someday I'll bob it too, but the storage space is nice if you fill it with people. Morgan

I'm with Jeff, I would be stoked to have more options on shafts and to be able to see what breaks instead of a closed knuckle. Also the bad batch of longs is a royal pain for some of my friends. Easier to just avoid, and get junkyard shafts. I still do believe that the og longs are sronger then a 44 with ctm's and warn's. Drop all that coin into a turd front end with the new cromo shiz seems like a waste. I wouldn't feel so strongly if advocates of the turd front end didn't keep comparing them to 60's. When Long claims 40-44 inch tires are fine with the new stuff, is seems stupid. Yota axles will never be 60's and shouldn't be compared.

Very true, "yota axles will never be 60's and shouldn't be compaired"
Put a 60 stub by a birfield and the differance is insane. I have said it 100s of times, with first hand experence. I ran every after market birfield know to man and I broke them all. Every time I went wheeling I broke at least 1. I swaped to a 60 and have not broke jack shit. Now I can drive the way I want to and not worry about breaking a stupid birf!
