project: save my sheet

Since everybody else has a name for their projects, I figured I should have one too! Got the rear bumper done for the 45lwb, now I'm fabbing up some sliders for the back of the bed behind the back tires.

Consensus was NOT to drill the sheet on the bed and make a rocker-type slider, but to use some square tube underneath the bed. Last time I was at Faultline, I had Simon weld up a pair of his modular frame anchors on either side of the framerails. Went back this morning and cut a pair of slider tube from some thick wall 2x2 tubing [trailer hitch grade] and angle cut them to match the arch of the wheelwells. Ground the ends and the caps so that Simon could come in and do a quick surgical strike on the welding [Phil, I swear Simon was working on your rig practically the whole time I was there! ]

Ground clearance is now down from 22" to 19 & 3/4"

Now I am taking a hard look at the suspension. I think next week I will change out my front ProComp 2.5" springs for some of my NHK 4" and trade out the stock rear shackles for some 2.5" from Downey. Prolly have to extend the brake lines for this as well. Seems like a lot of work for one run!

Oh yeah. If the suspension works out, I will prolly try to fab up a long slider between the front fenders and the rear wheelwells. Again, removable.

Thanks Gene. While Simon was figuring out the umpteenth custom gusset for Phil's 40, I took the sliders out to the truck, marked them, and cut them on the chop saw so that the leading edge matches the arch of the wheelwell EXACTLY! In other words, they look even better up close.

Of course since they are straight, they also magnify just how wavy the bed of the truck is!

So when do you want to do your bumper?

Nope. Rubithon is strictly a Ruftoys run. 45lwb will be back at the 45 run again this year. Also will do a DV pre-run b4 Moab.

If I keep the HJ and V-8 it, it will be SOA and set up to follow humbly behind Whitey's 45.....................

And pick up all the free camping gear!

Well, if Whitey stays true to form, he's usually lost half his gear before he gets off the slabs!

If Georg is following Whitey, you're gonna have to deal with toploader to get to those Fosters!

Couldn't say for sure Dan. Just call it a hunch.

Sliders are now fully gusseted, painted and mounted. Time to move on to the suspension! Thanks again Simon!

Send a message via ICQ to Cruiser Ken
Let's see some more pics with them mounted and painted. What are you doing for rocker protection?
