Manny - don't take offense to this, cuz I'm NOT takin' a shot AT YOU. I know you're tryin' to get the most responses by posting the same Q on both PBB & MUD & I've seen it done more than once. I would post a Q to ONE of the boards, but not both. This is JUST ME, but I get tired of seeing duplicate posts.

what a dumb-ass idea!!!
paint it after rubithon, wingnut! and to answer your question, get a hold of gene aka land cruiser junky. he's been a glass man for 20+ years.

I paint my rig after every run, rattle here rattle there, no taping off, cut in with a fed ex envelope. Or like I used too; 1 can rustoleum one brush 11.00 dollars, next step violate heavily, repeat.

I can't help but recognize the difference in the replies, If they where the same...there really wouldn't be any reason to DP (maybe because the communities are different?). I participate in both, I pay for both...I will probably continue to post in both (again, depending on the subject). No offense taken...thanks for brining up the subject, manny |

Paint before Rubithon???
If your hardtop rubber is anything like mine, you will need a grinder to get it out. Pull the Hard top and use a Bikini top for the trip (it should be warm enough)

Manny...
don't try this at home... but I thought I remember someone once saying you simply pop that glass outwards. I mean like stand on it and pop it outwards. Its basically just held in by the rubber... (may it was pop it inwards?) Perhaps someone can confirm yes or no on the Pop it out concept. Where's Taylor, he takes them in and out all the time for painting.

I don't think 40s are particularly capable rockcrawlers with the full top and doors installed. Too tippy. I've always run the Rubicon with the top off; and almost always with the W/S down.

Manny-
In my opinion, if the rubber is hard as a rock, youre not going to be able to reuse it to put the glass back in, so I would get a sharp razor and just cut the stuff out. though once you get the middle rope piece out, it should be easy to get the glass out. I used a screw driver to pry it out a little here and there. The glass shops usually have new rubber on a huge roll for when you put the glass back in. Its the same kinda rubber used on vw bugs and stuff. I say- paint it if thats what you want to do. Marc can probably give you some tips. Hes a pretty good auto body guy. Just dont expect to get off the Rubicon with it looking the same. Just ask Ray ![]() -Dustin
