Front disc conversions

Does anyone know if the mini-truck front disc conversion is a better way to go (stronger) than using a newer l/c front axle with disc brakes?

Thanks

I gotsta disagree wid ya bro......
The late model LC stuff uses the same stud pattern as the mini truck stuff but has the better vented disks! That why I'm using FJ60 outers on my 55 disk brake conversion. I'll need all the brakes I can get to stop the big pig!
Avoid the bastard years of the LC disk brakes 75 thru 77, those are the ones Georg is thinking of, and they are weaker.

Pat , stretch that to 75 thru 79 to avoid the bastard disc birf as well.

I wasn't fully sure on the years of that bastard crap, I knew it was late 75 because my 4/75 cruiser was drums, and it lasted a couple years, up to when the mini truck came out in 79 I think. If you get 60, or 62 series outers, you'll be Okay..... big pattern knuckles, common birfs, and vented disks.

so what i got is the last model that had drums front end in my 45s and I`ve got a complete front end from a 84 4runner including the tie rod,I also have a prop valve and a 80s master cylinder for when i was doing the rear disks on my 4runner and one more thing is it hard to replace the booster with the mini truck type?

Couple of options...

Get 79'-84' stock FJ40 arms and use your stock tie rod. $$
Get tapered shims and use your stock tie rod. $
Use a cut & re-tapped FJ60 steering setup... $$
New parts.. $$$

Kurt,
I think he's got an 81 fj45. Won't that have the correct arms?

It should per US specs, but I am not 100% sure in the case of late model OEM drum fronts such as his... they might have continued to use the smaller pattern, a pic might help

Here are the measurments:

Only runners that were vented were IFS and the disks were the wrong spacing.

You need IFS V6 calipers and Cruiser rotors for the correct spacing...

Yeah IFS rotors are to small on the OD,I can use the 1st and 2nd gen MT set up or our 3rd gen had the thicker vented rotors
