TBI350 Block ID needed

I need help with identifying the TBI350 installed in my fj60. I'm trying legally smog my engine swap & the local smog board says they will approve an engine swap providing that all the smog equipment is connected from the vehicle the engine came from. I also need to get a letter from a chevrolet dealer or GM that based on the #'s on the block (this is what the smog board guy said) that this engine came from XXXX car/truck (I was told it came from a 1993 C1500 series pickup) & it had XXX smog devices from the MFG.

I assume that the #'s on the block that the smog inspector is talking about is the Vin located just in front of the head & not the casting #. The problem I'm having is that the local GM/Chevy dealers are no help at all . They have no idea what I'm even asking for & don't even want to deal with it.

Does anyone know if this is even possible?

The Casting # is 14093638 (87-95 2 or 4bolt main, roller or tappet)
The Vin on the block: V1110TRA

Any help you guys could give me would be greatly apreciated!

I have had the dealer in Grand Junction decode the engine vin before. They can give you pretty much every specific about it. Some dealers may charge a few bucks but it can be done. Hell If I were you I would call Jim Fuoco in GJ they will do it for free.

According to my Catalog of Chevy V-8 Casting Numbers 1955-1993 and stamped numbers casting #14093638 is a 350 used for model application '86-'87 truck or an '87 Camaro both with a one piece rear main seal.

Another book I have says that number was a 350 used from '86-'94.

I can ID other parts for you (intake, exhuast, heads, distributer, EGR) if you can get a clear look at the numbers. May help with the smog search.

What book do you have? I looked up on a GM site and it said 86-94 but gave little details.

Powerpro Series Chevrolet Small-Block V-8 ID Guide only identifies the cast # as being used from 1986-94, nothing else.

Thanks guys.
I got ahold of a few local GM dealers & only one said they had a book to decode the Vin#. When I gave him the Vin he said that that the only thing that mattered were the last 3 letters & that none of his books had "TRA" in them. he said "TPA" was either a 91 or 92 motor. I don't think he knew what he was talking about because he kept changing his story.

I then called the smog bureau back & 1 of the guys said he would accept a letter from a machine shop stating that the casting #'s were for XX-XX years. this seems pretty stupid but I can get the letter for $25 & if it gets me passed smog then I should be set. I'm gonna get all this done tommorrow & hopefully it will pass inspection.

Thanks for the contact info & I'll let you guys know how it goes.

A Letter from a machine shop? Sheeit, sounds like it's time to get some letterhead made up in MS Word and draft that letter yourself..

"This is to hereby certify that the engine installed in Sixty's Toyota was used in the 1976 pre-smog Chevrolet pickup and is therefore exempt from all smog requirements"

Well I got it to pass the inspection & the test this morning. They had no clue how to decode the engine vin so they went off of the castring number & then checked to make sure I had a smog device configuration that matched what their book said.. it took a few hours & they were not going to pass it since I had no documentation that the cat was useable with a 5.7 displacement but in the end they gave me a pass. I then took the test & had a 0 on the CO's & the HC's were less than 45 (limit 220)... this is on a stock TBI w/ 160k miles on it... now I just have to get it registered!

thanks guys for your help

I'll do ANYTHING not to deal with those yahoo's again!!!! But.... I do owe you big time, so I guess anything is possible . You need to get that sucker together soon before they change the law or get even stricter .

you pull the casting # off the block yet? you need to figure out a configuration that will ditch the air injection.
