my father put the aluminum 4 cyclinder 4bt cummins diesel in his 53 dodge m37 with a deuce and a half 5 speed and a dual np205/np203 setup. talk about beef. bought a frito lay chip van, pulled the motor, got most of the money back by recycling the aluminum tub.

Cummins 4BT here, behind the H55F and Marlin Toybox between the tranny and t-case.
The jury's still out, I think if money was no object and I could find an Auto that worked well, I would have preferred that for the 4BT's narrow powerband, but I'm happy with the H55F and it was no extra $$$ since I already had it in the truck. Not sure I would want to give up the "Stupid Low" (4.7 Toybox) either, and I don't think there's a version out for an auto. |

proffit's cruisers in delta CO has done numerous conversions using the 4Bt and 4BTA. i would get a hold of them for parts and info. great guys, great work!
or you could pm greasecruiser on mud, he works with jeremiah and is more than helpful. big props to those guys!!! ![]() personally, i think the only auto to run behind the 4BT would be an overdrive trans, cause the three speeds won't have lockup and will limit your freeway speed a lot. i guess it all depends on what adapter plate you wanna run; ford or gm. here's a question: did the 4Bt ever come with a ford auto behind it? if so, then it'd have to be a C6, right?!

Go'n with an auto. Talked to bowtieoverdrives.com about a built 700R4. No problem there. There is an issue with the spacing of the torque converter. Not really sure on the details. I also used http://www.angelfire.com/fl/procrastination/rear.html to make sure all my gear ratios and OD was going to fit my needs. It will be going in my 60.
Another place for 4bt info is http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/cummins4BT/

marlin has the th350-700r and i was told when i stopped by a while back you can get the box for the 4l60e as well but thew price is a little more.this was the plan for my 60. 4bt 700r toybox splitcase. spring over.the place i contacted for the last 4bt with th400 sold it before i could get to it. my plan now is to put a 6bt with auto in and graft some 79 f350 axles in it that i have found.would like to put a doubler in with a 205 case. im going to narrow the axles of course. i think it will be a stout vehicle with some balls!

i was mistaken with what i said,he put a 4bta in.i guess A isnt for aluminum but it actually stands for inner cooling. well he did that motor swap with a spicer 309 3a tranny out of a military deuce and a half to a np205/np203 dual case setup.whats nice is the spicer 309 bolt pattern is sae.and bolts right up to the bell housing i think, but i could be wrong.
