203/205 doubler in an FJ40?
How feasible would it be to put a 203/205 doubler in an FJ40? My current drivetrain is a 350/SM465/TLC t-case. The Cruiser is sprung-over with the rear springs flipped to extend the wheelbase.
I will be installing a centered rear soon, and I had planned on using a 465/205 combo. I have a friend with a 465/203/205 set-up that he needs to sell, so I thought about it buying it. I think it would be too long for my current wheelbase though. Has anyone done the 465/203/205 in an FJ40 without pushing the rear axle way back? |

The 465/205 stock is very very tight, done one, and ya have to have the fixed rear output to attempt it then.........so no it won't fit without moving the axle back, in fact we ended up going back on the rig I did and moved the axle back later..... it ate rear u joints.......another thing, it hangs low unless you body lift/cut to move it upwards

Like mentioned above- it's gonna be tight. I have one in my 45 (SM465,203,205), rear driveshaft is like 20" long. And that's with a longer wheelbase than a 40. I can send pictures if you want. Can't post them here- because I let my star membership lapse (on purpose). Luke

yeah, that's gonna be really tight in a 40. it's run an atlas or stak instead. lighter, less spline lash and much longer rear driveline.
another option: keep the offset stock diff and put an orion in it!
