FJ Cruiser Adding A-trac? and using locking rear diff?

I have two ?s actually. First is, I was wondering if a new FJ cruiser that did not come with A-Trac, was "prewired" or had a way to add it. I have seen the switches for sale online, and have taken the panel off and have 2 or 3 harnesses that are not attached to anything. And second if there would be any problems with bypassing the switch to allow having the rear locked and the a-trac on. I have seen a bypass on a forum, that will alow to run the atrac and the rear locker at the same time. I guess i am just worried that the a- trac will try to brake one of the rear wheels for some reason while locked and mess something up because it cant. Any ideas would be greatfully appreciated.

A-trac

you might try posting on ih8mud. They have a thread section just for FJ's.

Good luck!

I talked to one of the guys on the FJ Trail Team earlier this summer and he said that A-Trac only engages when the ABS sensors detect that one wheel is not rotating at the same speed as another. If one would engage the locking rear differential, both rear wheels would always be turning the same speed and A-Trac would only function on the front. ie. The computer would "think" that the lack of traction was at the front wheels only and that the back wheels must have great traction.

As far as your question about adding A-Trac after the original build at the factory...I have no idea, but I'm guessing it's difficult. Why would Toyota make it easy to add an expensive option later on?

And I'll second www.ih8mud.com as a forum for FJC owners.

Good luck.

It's a relatively easy hack to add atrac. It's what toyota does. Build em all the same. It requires a little wiring and a $70 control unit. I'm sure youve been there, but mud is the place for landcruisers. Search there (which is free unlike pirate) for atrack hack.
Good luck
