Arrow 3speed gears to 4speed tase question

I just put the 3speed idler gear and shaft in the 4speed t-case. There is 0.015" of slop between the case and brass spacer, is this acceptable?

Any other advise on this procedure is appreciated.

Per Factory Manual...

Limit is .0187"
Standard is .0049 - .0187"

My factory manuel says the limit is 0.015". I am usally not this anal about conforming to factory specs but Ive heard that when doing this gear swap you need to add spacers to the idler gear because the 3speed case is narower then the 4speed case. When I put mine together I had only the 0.015" gap and I wasnt sure if this is the space that I am supposed to eliminate. Guess I should put away the feeler gauges open a beer and put the fawk'n thing together.

Thanks

When I did this swap,
I had to re-shim the idler to reduce this clearance.

Cory

I think I had .02XX" before the shim change.....

I went ahead and ordered the next thickness up spacer from toyota to reduce the clearance to .010". It was only $3 and Im not in a rush.

How did your conversion turn out? Any gear whine?

Well if it starts to whine, setting it in the corner for awhile should quiet it down. Works for my kids.
