Finally starting the Baja 45 project! Little background. After years of looking for the right one I bought a 63 FJ45 SWB from a guy in Sacramento. I had big ideas from the get go but I was not sure what way to take this little truck. I knew what I was going to be using the rig for and that it had to be very dependable, store a fair amount of gear and be fun to drive. My original thought was 5.3 Chevy, 4L60E, Atlas. To be honest I have done a fair amount of fuel injected conversions and wanted a new challenge. Why not keep it Toyota? Not a week after this revelation a buddy of mine wrecked his 98 Taco with a 3.4 and a stick. I took this as a sign and bought the truck from the insurance a couple days later.
This truck will be taking my Girlfriend (Kelly) and I on many camping trips, and the trip it is really being built for, spending at least a month at a time on the Baja. Plus She loves Toyotas and would love to have something fun to drive in the summer.
Here are some pictures of the 45 and the Taco.
slvrbck has the correct Ford part number there for you. Ans for 20$ a piece you cant go wrong. 20 min on your drillpress you can make them look cool too.
To test fit the exhaust and the rest of the stuff we threw the body on today during a paint stripping break... Got me excited to have her back together
Looking sweet guys, hands down you got the best wife of anyone on pirate. Way to go kelly on your award for softball thats awesome. Cant wait to see you guys in moab in a few months, should be a good group of people over there and should be some excited wheeling....... Justin started on his chassis so we will make sure that thing is ready to go even if BFE is it's maiden voyage..
Hey Pat. Thanks!
Help Justin get that thing done. I doubt it happens by the end of March though. TO bad you guys are not going over New Years.
I need to call you about some wheels for this rig
Well I am back on it after the week off for the Moab trip. Basically the last 2 days were a total waste. I jacked around with the FJ60 Steering column and it just does not look right in there. I got it to fit good but looks weird to me. I may end up using a GM or after market column.
Back to body work...
Just got done rerouting the exhaust and I am off to get more wire wheels... Pia Mai
