Downey offroad made a 1 off adapter to put that combo in there FJ45. They changed direction on the project and I think the one and only adapter was sold.

Yup, the FJ62 has an excellent auto tranny - way over-built for the vehicle. The only down-side is that it is an expensive tranny to fix/rebuild, and robs power. The FJ62's are total dogs; mating it to a 2F would make it worse.

he said it would be better off to buy a 62 and take the drivetrain from it.

Up-n-over used to have an adapter plate as well. But IIRC they stopped building it.

Stupid.. If i could just get my wife to drive a 5 spd. i'd be fine
I found a sweet deal on a FJ62 with an auto we'll see how it turns out. I guess it would be less than ideal anyway, a 2F has tons of grunt down low where a auto it least efficient. it seems like it would be kinda worthless

Interesting - I was under the (mis) impression that the F blocks were all the same
![]() I would not bother with the Toyota drivetrain (especially out of an FJ62 - (speaking as a non-purist ) just go with a Chevy motor/tranny and adapt to a Toy Tcase - cheaper, more power, better economy, etc. etc.

Maybe you could use a Ford c-6 (removable bell housing) and custom fab an adapter. But would'nt it be much easier to just swap a GM drivetrain in... That's why everyone else does it. Simple + most cost effective.

The FJ62 trans will bolt up to a 2F with the cast adapter that they use to bolt it onto a 3FE, and the trans is not computer controlled.....

The reason I know is that I have all the stuff to couple them together here and a good used A440/t case....thought it would make a cool buggy powerplant.......If I live long enough to complete all the bitchin' projects my mind dreams up it will be a miracle.

What are you wanting to put it in?? It is a long ass transmission for a 40. I was putting a drivetrain from a 62 in my 40 but it left the rear shaft about 8" long. The whole combo is not going to happen for me, its now in the shed. Now I'm going with a 4.3 4l60e and 3speed t-case with downeys adapter. Should have around 18" of rear d-shaft.

you would either have to drill/tap your crank for the bigger bolts or use some sort of spacer inside the holes of the flexplate. This might not be an issue on every LC auto flex-plate, but I know when going from a H55F to a 3FE you have to drill out the holes on the flywheel for the bigger 3FE bolts. On the two setups I've dealt with, we had to just that... so one could assume you would have to do the opposite while going the opposite direction (F/2F to A440)Quote:
I think the issue I was referring to was rigging a kickdown cable to your carb, not impossible but something to do none-the-less. Quote:
