Angry Tight inners?

Went to install my new Longfields today and ran into a small problem. They don’t fricken slide onto my inner axels! The old original birfs slide on with no friction, the mini birfs from the disk brake swap are alittle tight but will go with some effort, but these new virgin Longfields… Has anyone else ran into this problem?

Been there and done that a few months ago. I was at first a little concerned but after checking everything out I just gave them a little more LOVIN and they went on with no problems.. I'm not sure where he is getting the new birfs from that he is modifying but they just seem to be a little snug.. No worries man just give em a good whack!

Mine were a little tighter than the birfs I took off. Just tap them on with a mallet!

How are you planning on getting the broken stub axle out if you have to hammer it on? There is not much to grab once the inner axle is broken...

You will need to weld a nut on to extract it if that is the case.

Even ones that went on easy that I have dug out of birf cages required a nut to be welded on the broken stub.

You know the pads that you use to clean gaskets? They are color coded for different types of metal, I take the grey ones and clean the splines with them, most of the time this will allow the axles to slide in.

die grind your housing, the last birf explosion in there likely shredded all the inside of your balls to hell and it doesnt want to fit

sadly i dont have no longs (yet)

BUT...... at the moment, if the birfs are a tight fit...all i do is hammer them in, and they are EASY to get out.....they are broken into little tiny pieces that just fall right out

go GET IT!!!

btw: those long birfs are in a toy over here, i was watching him last weekend, and as he dumped the clutch, 6000 rpm, headlong onto rocks, spinning up the tyres, and i was standing right next to it waiting for the housing to explode......the angry noises it was making made it seem like the whole lot was going to spontaneously explode, fully locked and just caning at the rocks........ nothing, it just sat there spinning away, so he reversed up, and the rear caught on an obstacle (fairly steep downhill) so he cranked it full lock, reverse, first gear low, backs straight out......

later on loose slippery hills he had a number of big clutch dumps with the wheels cranked and the lockers in.....and no BOOM

so i have to say...from what i have seen they can take some abuse

just wait till i get them in the locked cruiser, 38.5s and 2 tonnes of weight more go pedal
