pinion nut torque setting

I need to replace the rear pinion seal on my 55, and want to know the torque setting for the pinion nut. Anyone?

Thanks,

TJK

The 3rd member pinion flange nut is torqued to 145-173 ft lbs. This only applies to 3rd members that have preload shims and not the crush sleeve. I believe that after about 87, they went to crush sleeves. Use a new stake nut (if you don't have the cotter pin type) and be sure to stake it properly with a chisel.

Yeah, this is on a '76, no crush sleeve.

Thanks!
