Help w/ t/c and crawl box decisions.

Help w/ t/c and crawl box decisions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have nothin pertaining to this then butt out
I am tired of the " try search" and the smart comments.

Here is the skinny.as we all know mini parts are cheaper and more pleantyful then the cruiser stuff.

Here is my thought. sm465 to mini tcase. cruiser, mini hybrid rear axle

the classic cruiser adapter to go from the 465 to cruiser t/c is $550.
the OTT industries adapter for the 465 to mini case is $465
(This is a possibility need to call) the marlin adapter is 465.

The marlin dual case adapter for the mini is $369 hell a complete crawl box is $750
The only option for the cruiser is marlin crawl box. For the sm465 it is $1375

the cruiser moley shafts are $450 and you need to carry 2 spares due to the offset.
the mini moley shafts are $200 per set.

so not to include the stuff I have for the center and mini case I will spend:
sm465 adapter $465
dual case adapter $369
rear shafts $200

that is aprox $1150 for a ratio of 138.875

If I go cruiser stuff I will spend:
toy box $1375
shafts $450

that is aprox $1825 and I will have a ratio of 140 .7

And I have the ability to go W/ 4.7 in both cases for over 500:1(That is sick gear and I would never need thet much.)

now despite the $ and dedication to the cruiser stuff . Which will be the strongest setup? And well the $700 diffrence almost makes this simple and doable.

As far as the labor ! well it gives me something to do.

just the adapter from ott is 5.25" long.

with the adapter+doubler it is longer without a doubt! still a long setup with just the one toy case.the toyota mini tcase is longer from the front of the box to the output flange than a cruiser case by quite a bit. the output is also higher , so drive line angle will be greater.

how low do you really need to go? what engine are you running? I have an l/c case with a 203 range box, it is strong but with a 700r-4 it is way to long. even with my rear axle back 6 inches the rear shaft is only 17 inches long. I can count the times on one hand I have used the tandom combination. I would much rather have a longer rear shaft than the second box. just thoughts. land cruiser parts might be more $$ but are stronger.

I run a sm 420, dana 300 with 4:1,mini truck rear with 4:10.I believe the crawl ratio is 115.This set-up is short plus you have front dig.

That is not a bad deal. How does the cruiser front axle handle the digs?

I am curently running a 350 tbi to a h42/ lc 2.31 tansition case. Currently have a crawl of 33.7:1 which is stupid high and needs a lot of clutch work. I want to triple that if possible.

auto dont need the low crawls that the standards need due to the tourque converter slip.

If you drive it on the street you will hate the SM465 after losing the H42.

Why not do a crawlbox in between what you have?

That in my opinion is the most verstile option besides an orion.

Why the concern over rear shafts? It is the coarse pinion that is the concern.

240 for chromo rears vs the 480 for the pollys. 1800 for a crawl box vs 500 for the sm465 dana 300 combo. Plus the 300 has greater strength and better after market support.
