Floor shifter install?
Hello all,
I just bought a '71 FJ40. Being a taller person I am unable to work the clutch so I plan to replace the seats ASAP. I will post that next as I want to keep the post topics separate. I don't like the shifter in the tree and want to swap in a floor mount shifter for the 3 speed trans. I am looking for any info on this subject I can find, from parts to install tips, gotcha's, etc. I have been searching here on around the net and have not found what I am looking for yet. Can anyone point this newbie in the right direction? Thanks! Steve |

search is still your best tool. Lots of threads on the subject.
Get a used shifter off the for sale section, post in Wanted if you cannot find one. They run $10 to $50 depending on who and what and where. Basically, you'll cut a hole in the tranny cover (take time to locate), remove the top of the 3 spd tranny, install new shifter and nice boot over hole. Then remove and abandon 3 on the tree linkage and hardware. Advance Adapters sells the upgrade, but again, pick one up used. have fun. Oh, and welcome newbie.
