How to get drive shaft bolt off...

Hi all, i'm replacing the stock parking brake drum on my FJ55 with a disc conversion i got from man a fre (http://www.man-a-fre.com/parts_acces...akeconvkit.htm). i got my drive shaft off, but there's a bolt in the center of the parking brake drum that is stuck pretty tight (see attached photo). Is there a trick to getting it off? i've tried an impact wrench, wacking a really long wrench with a rubber mallet, and even torching it to no avail.

any suggestions?

Doesn't look like you "un-staked" the nut. There are two depressionsin the ring of the nut that matched up with the grown in the out put shaft. You needed to pry those back out prior to removing the nut

X2 what woooody said...

It should only take a couple good whacks of the mallet to breaker-bar to get it loose.

*just in case you haven't done this already (guess how I learned ) chock the front wheels, put trans in gear, t-case in 4 LO, lock hubs... have at it

i tried a 1/2 air driven impact wrench. it didn't touch it.

i didn't unstake it, it was already the way it was when i opened up the transfer case, the stakes where just mush. i pulled them off. sucker still wouldn't budge.

What brand/model of impact are you using? My IR has 650 ft/lbs in reverse and will remove it without any issues.

I just removed mine last week, took a very large 1/2" ratchet (2 footer) plus a 1' breaker bar to loosen it. You know there is a seal right behind it right? You probably ruined it with the heat. Better get a new one.

Mudrak is the biggest lurker....

I will stick my biggest 1/2" drive on there, put the Cruiser in gear and back up. Front driveshaft does all the work

Never even thought of that Grog. good tip. I used a long 1/2 breaker bar with a 6 ft piece of pipe over it and then jumped on end of pipe.

Last time I saw him he was throwing an M80 on the ground, under the passenger seat of Dave Wests rig, where it exploded and I needed to change my pants.
