stretching the 40

well after the install of a sm465/toybox/splitcase i need more drive shaft. after much deliberation i decided to cut and stretch the frame and body by 8". here are some starting pics.

l plan to cut just forward of the tubular cross member . I will do a step cut by 4" which will give me a total of 22" of weld surface combined with the 16" of fish plate. should be strong enough to survive the abuse of the rock world.

i searched this before and i found nothing. so i hope i am the first to do this. I seriously doubt this.

And it looks like Wilson is too, but there aren't any pictures of the stretched tub in his build thread.

I would consider mine to be more of a buggy style build. The only tub left in mine is the cowl, skinned over tube door openings and the very top rail from the back of the tub.

IMO, an inner sleeve would be the best option, extended 6" to 8" either side past the new frame section into the existing frame. I know that would be a little more trouble due to the inside frame rivets. Then, weld up your "V" cuts. Or, the fishplate idea would be a good option as I've done that in the past.
