Hi all,

I need to replace the TCase on my FJ62 but I heard that I have to take it apart in order to do so.. the repair manual also says that a special tool is needed... is it better to install the TCase/transmission from the donor instead of taking it apart to install it on the existing transmission?

Please advice ... thank you!!

what is your problem with the current case?

yes it has to be disassembled off the back of trans in pieces. its not really hard.
the FSM walks you through it. i dont recall any special tools needed. just pulling a couple bearings, so if you have the ability to do that kind of stuff you are gold.

doing a trans and case swap is quite a bit more involved.

The only special tool I can think of is a big semi-thin wall socket to get the nut off the shaft.

what's wrong with your t-case? no special tools needed other than a couple of large metric sockets.
