Need some advice on my 63 fj40
So a few months back, My wife and I were in an accident in our 63. The insurance company is totalling it.
So this is my delima, the buy back price is 4k, and I am not sure if its worth that. It will need a new frame, sheetmetal(I think the hood is fine), new oil pan, and a new cage. Every thing has about 90 miles on this build. She runs fine, just the crank is hitting the oil pan, SO my question to you all, is it worth the buy back and resell of it as is. Personally I would rather see the FJ go to a good home where I know it will be utilized, instead to someones crusher. I would want to sell it as a whole if I go that route Heres the specs and and a few pictures. 63 landcruiser -will be a salvage title but still smog exempt. SOA Fj60 axles, the fronts cut n turned, with a front lockright, and 4 wheel disk TBI 350 - Bilstein shocks corbeau Baja SS front and rear seats no tears or rips 4 sets of 4 point harnesses(front and rear) Aluminum panels for gauges, switches, and glove box Autometer classic gauges(speedo, gas, etc) Sm420 with plate adapter to three speed t-case AA twin stick AA disc brake ebrake Asian Master cylinder High steer with FJ60 rod ends close ratio Ps box M8000 winch(broken but 200 to repair the sides) All custom brake lines, single drop front and rear. Painless wiring harness, loomed and heat shrunk connections. rocklights -lots of em custom rims with 35s OBA Summit 26x19 radiator(still intact, no damage as far as I can tell) MAF aluminum fan shroud Custom bumpers front and rear MAF longrange 28 gallon fuel tank Tilt steering Column Custom step rocker protection that double as an Air tank Theres more but thats all I can think of right now.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

No real advice except that some insurance companies will NOT insure a salvage title vehicle.
Also, I'd be surprised if you find someone who would pay $4k or more for a rig that is that significantly damaged. You could probably easily get more than $4k by parting out aside from that whole sitting one stuff for a long time

Thanks Lil John,
I hear ya about parting it out, and to be honest it may be just valued to high from the insurance company to keep. Parting out is defiantly an option, I just dont know. Thats why I am asking..

Started out as a good night, warm weather, BBQ with good friends..
We were in the final stages of the build, had worked out a lot of the bugs and were putting some road miles on the Cruiser.. (made it to 90 miles )Coming home, we were driving in the far left lane of a two lane road and a guy made a left turn crossing our path, didnt yield, just cut the turn. We were doing 40(posted speedlimit) no cars on the road except us, We hit him square in the bed. Witness said, if he the other driver would have just waited 1 min, it would have been clear. Cops said we were very lucky we were driving the cruiser and not the focus. My Daughter, Wife and I all walked away, no bruising, no soreness etc,

Is the insurance covering all of your mods, etc to your satisfaction? I would have to imagine so with the $4k buyback. If not pull what you can and they can come pick up their land cruiser

Try to talk them out of "totaling" it so they won't put a salvage title on it. My buddy wrecked his 65 FJ40 years ago similar to your wreck and the insurance didn't total his or put a salvage title on it even though it was pretty bad. He spent almost a month in the hospital and couldn't walk for 4 or 5 months. We rebuilt it and is still running around.

yea talk to your insurance company. the cruiser I'm rebuilding is the cruiser i rolled. was hit by a semi truck twisting the frame real bad and rolling me over 2 and a half times. It was a bad wreck, gave me a concussion. insurance wanted to total it and we fought with them bc they dont know the actual worth or what itll take to fix. How'd all this work for you? I know I'm late to post lol

can you have them not total it, get your rig back, and use what youve got to make a buggy? you still get to enjoy it, but shit can the bent frame and use the stuff that is still in good working order?
im not an insurance whiz-so i dont know if you can do that or not, just my .02

Thanks guys, hard to believe its been over a year since the accident.
The insurance company valued the salvage way beyond what I wanted to pay for by back. To be honest there was just to much unknown damage to invest time into it. They made us a decent offer so we ended up giving it to the salvage yard, Currently we are waiting on settling the medical
