tacoma front brake caliper

A buddy of mine has a 2005 toy tacoma trd. He was changing the front brake pads (first time) and completely disassembled the front dual piston calipers. He put the 2 caliper haves back together and made sure the o ring was in place and put every thing back on the truck. now he is leaking fluid from the calipers. He called the dealer and they told him the calipers were ruined since he completely tore them apart. Is there any truth to what there telling him?

Is it leaking between the 2 halfs of the caliper? I did that on my first toyota 4x4 brake job as a know it all 16yo The orings were old and dried, found some cheap universal o rings at the parts store, stuffed them in there and they never leaked in the next 2 years I had it. Spend some time, and find some quality o rings, at work I have some badass orings kits for heavy equipment, really high pressure, resistant to high temp, and all kinds of fluids. Might try an equipment supply place. Good luck.

He reused the old o rings. I'll tell him to get new o-rings. Thanks

New O rings, no silicone, just lube them up with a little brake fluid so they wont bind or tear when getting torqued down.
