Full Hydro' Problem

Hey guys. I've got a 96 model 4 banger that i've put a hp44 and 9 inch under. I've just plummed up my full hydro setup and am having some major pump overheating problems. I'm running a charlyn valve with the 5th port t'd back into the return. Bottom end has a single ended, unbalanced ram. The system workd great when it's cold, and as long as you keep moving the wheel, but if you let it sit and idle the pumps heats up to meltdown mode. Someone had suggested I put an adjustable pressure relief in the pressure line because it is building pressure in the pump when the steering is not being cycled. Any help would be greatly apprecialted. Thanks guys, Jon

Ive got the exact same problem in my 95. I added a cooler to mine it helped a little but still has the problem. If you can somehow get a bigger resivior to hold more fluid that might help. I think that is the problem with mine it just cant carry enough fluid. What else helped was adding a smaller pulley. I took one off a camry and with a little modifcation it worked.

So you don't think it's a pressure problem, but a lack of fluid problem that's causing the temp prob. Because when it gets hot my pressure hose starts seeping a little drop of fluid from the fitting. I figured pressure was causing this, but it still doesn't explain the high temp. And when the wheel isn't being turned the pump whines and growles something fierce...

When I did my hydro assist the reservoir got hot enough to cook on!! I put a cooler and doubled the reservoir size. Problem solved!

Figured out that my valve was junk, but ima add a cooler and increase resi. size. Hopefully that'll fix it.

I just fixed my hydro steering. I mounted a pump off a Camry with a nice big remote reservoir and it really works great. It works better than it ever has in the past.
