Questions
i am looking to buy a Tacoma very soon. this will be my first non American truck. so i dont know much about these, my number one concern is MPG!!!!
this is what i have in mind http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=1&cardist=556 not this EXACT one but the same model, possibly a 4cyl what are the common problems with these? (like my $%^@# dodge and the tranny and rear end problems)? what kind if MPG could i expect with a few inches of lift and larger tires(something smaller then 35's)?? what package would be the best to get?? thanks for any help Last edited by redram001; 06-13-2007 at 07:31 PM. |

What kind of MPG can you live with? Cause the toyota trucks, even the 4cyl, don't get great mpg. The 4 cyl and the V6 actually get about the same mileage. The 4cyl really suffers if you get bigger tire 32's and up. In mine I was getting about 19 to 20 on 31's and now I am getting 17 with the 32's. But mine is an auto so the 5spd's do get a little better seen them get around 23 to 25 on factory tires. The V6's average around 19 to 23 depending on the tires and your left foot.
Problems with them there aren't really any "this goes bad" with either engine or the whole truck for that matter except the exhaust manifold cracks on the 2.7 4 cyl has been know to be a problem other than that parts failing usually depends on maintaince up keep, how hard you drive, how hard you wheel, what mods you do to it that causes parts to wear out faster. IE big tires Lift that sort of thing Toyota's are great trucks I love my 98. Look here for more answers to your questions. www.ttora.com Its a Tacoma offroad forum |

That doesn't seem right. On good tanks I get 17-19mpg with my 97' 3.4L. The last few tanks I have been around 15 mpg. I have a 2.5" suspension lift with stock size tires.

Well from what I seen it is all over the board with both engines just depends on the type gas, driving conditions, tire size, gearing, terrain, etc... I just picked the closer to the top numbers. but some times I get 15 some times I getb 20 but mostly I average around 17 to 18. And it does have to do with engine life when I first got my truck it got 21 everytime but with age it has slowly started falling.

4 cyl - 5spd manual - reg cab 4x4
When my truck was stock, it got 24 mpg hwy - 20 mpg city After I lifted on 33s and a shitload of armor, double cases etc it gets 20 mpg hwy - 17 mpg city Wheeling I burn through about a 1/4 tank per day. |

Where are you located? I am selling my 01 v6 4x4 tacoma already lifted, etc.
BTW I get 20 mpg highway and 14-16 in town depending on how long I warm it up with 33x12.50 MTs.
