Shrockworks product 97 4runner build

It always sucks to take initial product pictures on a stock vehicle, so being that we had access to this 97 4runner I thought I'd make it a little more suitable for product pictures just before the prototype 3rd gen bumper gets here. It'll be nothing crazy as it is a DD for my wife but a nice meduim duty rig.

I removed the stock trim around the fenders and lost the stock running boards....then I made a prototype Shrockworks bolt on sliders for it.

Next came replacing the 31's with some JK Rubicon takeoffs 255/75/R17's (32x10 R17) and ordered Procomp Extreme #7005 wheels (17"x8" 4.5" BS). Right off the bat just adding the tires raised it 1 3/8".

We have an OME lift we ordered from Trail Tough coming in next. We went with N915,N86,906,881 . We'll see how things go with the product weight, and keep you informed.

A one off rear bumper will also be built.

sorry for the shitty pics...better to follow

Nick

I gotta say.....
THANK YOU FOR GRACEING US WITH ANOTHER BUILD.
I read the threads on your '85 runner.. "the beard project"
and I love it. (waitin for an update by the way.)
Can't wait to see you ditch the IFS,
I did an IFS lift on my 88runner because it was EZ, pretty much a bolt-on. I was sold on the "trail talk" light campin and family style wheelin from the vender conversation. WAS AFRAID OF CUTTING AND WELDING, so all the friends I have been a passanger with told me SAS or STREET.
I did the IFS for the DD idea as-well.
NOW THE I WASTED TIME & $$ (529 n arb front diff) on IFS.
I am planin my SAS. IFS SUCKS yup sucks! fun for flyin down riverbeds n jumpin
didn't mean to ramble
LOOKIN FOWARD TO YOUR BUILD

It's fine, this is the newest speed bump on the Beard, now you know why the beard came along...I get sidetracked (or I can't stop at one project)...it's the wife's DD, which will hopefully come to be the mild camping wheeler.

Looks good Nick.

Do you guys make low profile rocker protection for an 86 runner?

It seems that from my pre measurements to my post measurements it only lifted about 1-1.25"...It's looking like I'll need to get a small spacer for the front...but I'll see about getting the bumpers on before the final say.

I work for Shrockworks as a Designer. We should have the prototype front bumper in anytime now. I'll put it together and take pics, then once it goes to the powdercoater I'll start on a custom rear bumper.

Kick ass! Looks great!
I really like the look of those wheels, though I would stay at the 16" size.

Pretty nice looking. I wish there was a way to keep the "face" of the bumper a little more low profile, all the 4runner bumpers are so large there, but i know thats a big gap to fill between the frame and grille.

It does look better than most out there right now.

The face is as small as possible in the way that the winch is mounted (feet forward), that is the limiting factor. I tried to get it tight as possible.

Here is a little info on the front bumper. (MODS - if this is an infraction I'll deleate)

A little comparison to the other options...

Here is a side shot and some bare shots of the other tube options..

- 3/16", 1/4" Plate steel consrtuction
- Black powder coat
- Accepts most non-integrated solenoid winches up to 9500 lbs.
- Tubular center hoop and headlight guard hoops. 2"x.120 &
1.5"x.120 Tube
- Holes for mounting driving lights on top of bumper under center hoop
- Place to mount 4" aftermarket fogs or Driving lights (PIAA 510)
- Integrated Turn sigals (lights included)
- Two Recovery Points. They are a FULL 1/2" THICK steel. Welded front and rear. Accept 3/4" Clevis shackles.

Options:
- No Tube
- Center Hoop only
- Gray Powder coat
- xtra tabs for antennas, wires, lights etc.

As for the price, we need to evaluate the costs. A ballpark is just like our 05 tacoma bumper $979 (black PC, Full Tube). To get further info about price call and talk to Jim.

The frame end on the 4runner has a thin cap and the bottoms and inner edges would need to be ground flush with the frame. It is not necessary to do an end cap mod (there are 4 bolting locations to the frame already) but since I had the grinder out I did it. Now there are 5 locations each bracket. Drilling of 2 3/8" holes are reqd. each rail, is just enlarging an existing hole on both Tacoma and 4runner.

Check out Yotatech. There are alot of guys swappng in Tundra springs and doing "pirate style" lifts where they are using misc. toy parts/OME to get the job done on the cheap.

I still am meaning to do the Tundra caliper swap...these brakes suck.

I went with OME Front: N91s (shock), 881 spring (1 3/4" -2"). and the 10mm spacer. (to level out for the bumper weight).
Rear: N86 (shock), 906 spring (2")

I ordered the heavy duty shocks for "aggressive" driving as my wife is Mario Andretti and I didn't want it too squishy. Doing it again I would go with the regular as the heavy duty is somewhat jarring. (even after all the lifted straight axle toys I've owned)

The only good place I saw info to figure out what all the OME #'s meant was Wheelers Offroad. But once I got the #'s I went to trail tough and ordered through them and got the best price.

I love the set up. Only wanting to add a rear bumper and the brake upgrade....a rear e- locker would be sweet...I'm stopping.

It would be nice to see some fab pics as you were building that bumper, looks like allot of time and effort go into them.

Got any rear bumpers designed yet? Also, long-er term suspension test results? Looking at the 255/85/16 KM2, think your set up would clear them?

Yes that set up will clear them, I have the same set up with the same size tires and it works flawlessly, you can even get 285/75/16 on there with the stock rims, my aftermarket rims wouldnt allow me to run them with out wheel spacers

Thanks. Going for a "tall skinny" look, I have a set of aftermarket rims, and an extra set of 05+ Tacoma sport rims, I'll have to see which'll work better...
