Want a little bit of tech?

Well whats up, like some others been spending a little more time over here lately thanks to the satan of TTORA lol. Thanks Dick, you saved me from wasting time over there. But yeah I still check it out, mostly the classifieds though.

Well anyhow before I go to the effort anyone want a font-end repair thread with a prerunner--->4x4 IFS conversion?

I'm doin it right now, there isnt much interest on TTORA so I am not going to bother updating it over there. But basically I got in a wreck, my fault, everyone was ok though. My truck got totaled, 99 Prerunner TRD V6, I bought it back for the whoppin 1800 and I am tryin to fix it the RIGHT way and do a 4x4 conversion at the same time. I've probably already aquired the majority of the parts. Hopefully the tranny arrives in Sac next week so I can pick it up (terminal pick up).

But yeah if any of you want a kinda-sorta build thread post up. There isnt so much activity here so it may be a good thing.

Some quick info first about what exactly is damaged.

Do you just need to replace the Lower A arms and upper suspension arms due to being bent?

Pictures of damage?

Or are you just wanting to go from 2wd to 4wd since the truck is now payed off?

Do you plan on running harder trails and what trails do you wanna run?

How much money do you have to spend on your axle conversion?

I would check out Revivalist build. He went from a prerunner --->>4x4 sas but had some nice info about swapping the drivetrain out.

TTORA thread
http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum/member.php?u=9997

Pirate thread
/forum/toyota-tacoma/504902-03-prerunner-4x4-sas.html

Also I would buy a red star since you will need to do alot of seaching and its alot easier to find stuff then doing the dam google round about way. But this should get you started. Just answer some of the questions and we can help you out alot more.

Goodluck

When I bought the truck, my pranets wouldn't loan 1 grand more to get a 4x, when I got this truck the loan was only at 3600. So yeah I got the next best thing, TRD Prerunner V6. Since I wanted to swap in 4x4, not a SAS.

Well now that I got in a wreck and buyin the truck back would save me a grip of money compared to buyin another Tacoma. Plus it's my truck, you oughta know how that is. heh So since there is the extra money in the payout from insurance, I am buying IFS 4x4 parts from people that SAS'd. Already have. The rest will probably got 80% toward tuition next year.

Damage wasnt that bad really. What added it up was shit like a 500+ dollare air box (only has 2 broken tabs...JB weld) a 500+ dollar radiator, 170 dollar UNBROKEN TRD fender flare, 260-270 fan+clutch, full wiring harness at a nice 650 or so (fus box was kinda busted, got a replacement for 160) among other things I dont remember.

Frame is fine, suspension is fine. No impact on the suspension at all. Nor direct impact on the frame. A core support/bumper mount got fucked up but I already got a new one from the dealer and have it tacked in place.

Its more done than that, but I am waiting on the dealer getting that bolt/bushing assebly to make sure the core support lines up properly.

I've already got 75% of the parts. Tranny is suppose to show up tomorrow in Sac so I gotta go down there and get it.

So now I am the Satan of TTORA, huh. LOL That's pretty good, but how can I be a Satan of it if I'm not even there?

Now come to your freaking senses, and do it with a solid axle, Kyle.

I'll update the thread in a few days when I get back to K-Falls.

Just scored some driveshafts for 150 from a 5spd 4x4, a tranny+t-case that I picked up Sac and a excellent airbox lol. But yeah seriously, the internet down here (at the parents) blows too much ass so I'll save the photo's for K-Falls. Gotta accomplish somethin up ther I guess lol (there isnt much to do...well hit up bars or do meth seem to be the commons).

God damn it why wont the thread title change...sounds like I am retarded...hmm...

Yeah now here is a update, might as well contribute here somehow if I am gannahang out.

Parts:

D-side apron and core support--->dealer parts @ 750 for the two.

Drive lines and hubs---need cleanign but look good. Well the other was behind it.

Yeah...

Yeah again...

Super sweet tranny... Its some Asain model outta a 98 4runner V6. Bought from someone in Phili or somethin. Told it was a 30-40L or somethin. Anyhow---suppose to be identical to the A340F which is what I needed. Looks it, snesors are in the same spots. The bellhousing says VZ---guessing that just means it bolts to a VZ block. But yeah...havent actually lifted it outta hte box yet to see the tag.

The fusebox. Thought all the wires just pulled out via a connector...haha wayyyy wrong. Now I know why the dealer didnt sell the inside plastic piece alone. But every single wire was color coded...thank you Toyota...I checked the locations of each though. Cant believe I found a identical box. Are they usually identical, or did I get really fuckin lucky? So yeah I followed the coded wires and check the locations and had to cut and reattach each. That was a little after I started. Turned out good too. Not quite OEM, but for what had to be done I think I did a nice job. No bare metal anywhere! Have a grip of extra relays and fuses as well. The new box had every fuse and relay and so did my original, the case was only broken on my original. Got the 'new' fuse box for 160 shipped with the wires cut 6" outside the box.

Oh and I got a used fan off ebay---not quite worthy of a picture. Thought about tryin for a taurus fan, but seems to be too much of a PITA for little gain with a massive (or so -they- say) electrical load.

Now the repairs.

Yeah the wreck----my fault unfortunitely. Combination of irregular traffic and me looking at a Supra...at least it was mostly just bad timing. Everyone was ok.

Ok aside from the 4x4 conversion stuff (its a Prerunner), I needed:

-core support
-d-side apron (AKA inner wheel well)
-fan and clutch
-radiator
-AC condenser
-d-side fender
-hood
-headlights
-one corner light
-bumper
-fuse box
-d-side bumper/core support mount
-misc minor parts

Some stuff I just fixed like that emmissions black box---right behind fuse box that had a corner busted off. JB welded. Also the p-side apron was a little bent in. My dad helped me fix that with some body-work tools. Worked good.

Few damage shots.

Everything damaged is off other than the welded-to-frame core support/bumper mount. The d-side apron is half-there. I just used a abrasive cutting disc and a hack saw to cut the apron mostly off so I had some light inder there to drill and/or grind out spot welds. Less material to screw with too.

Here is the new fuse box---kinda new anyhow. Not busted up... If you;ve popped one open from the bottom you may notice that there shouldnt be a bunch of wires sticking out like a worm going nowhere. Thats because when I swapped boxes I had to cut and connect each wire and with about half (of the connectors) wrapped in electrical tape (just a round once---then I kinda made the decision it wasnt probably necessary so stopped doin it) it takes up significantly more space. They were randomly staggered too. Well there is a bunch of wires with a large connector that dont go straight to the box. So I was having trouble closing the bottom piece on the box with that large connector in there so I just pulled it outta the box and wrapped it nicely in the plastic crap Toyota wraps wires with then taped it.

The timing belt-its at 126k so I figured why not. Then I saw the factory one looked bran-fuckin-new. Maybe it isnt but I chose not to. Never heard on one breaking anyway. 5vz's are also non-interferance engines (pistons wont hit valves when they somehow are out of sequence) so its ok if it ever does take a dump on me. Did the other belts though.

Here is a basically a idea of what is going down on the body-end of things. If you havent ever pulled a apron entirely out, its kinda lame. But can be done in a few hours. Basically it is finding and drilling about 20 spot-welds on the cab-firewall end of it. Then tryin to pull it out. The smallest piece of weld stuck in there will give you hell lol. It was only sitting in place. I already bought the proper paint---just ganna paint the necessary parts first, then line up and weld-in. Then touch-up paint.

This is basically as it sits. God damn it Redding is so fuckin hot right now. Can hardly do anything in the garage. Last night I started on it around 7pm and worked on and off (probably 2/3 of the time) til 1:30 am. Only worthy time to work. Next week I need to get some of my lazy-ass friends over to help me get that tranny and diff in. Got a good Sears (kinda lol) aluminum jack and a HF engine hoist to get the tranny in so thats pretty much covered. And the flare wrenches. Have a week off next tues so I better get done with everything but outer body shit.

And a porno shot... How are my nipples?

Ok...well somethin a little more attractive than me, consider it a reward for having to look at my super sweet tan lol. -----some may recognise from the infamous TTORA thread a few months back.
