Tacoma Steering wheel replacement-Safe or Not Safe?

Re-doing the inteior of a 04 Tacoma and wondering what others thought about this. I plan on using a Quick Release style steering wheel from Kartek Off Road, basically the same setup used on 4 Wheel & Off Road magazines Ulitmate Challenge Tacoma a few years back. This would require cutting off the spline on the stock steering shaft and welding the correct spline for the quick release mount Kartek Off Road offers. I intend on Tig welding the new spline on. Does anyone think this is unsafe or a bad idea? Momo sells a quick release hub that works on the Factory steering shaft spline, this would be my only other option instead of going back to the factory steering wheel. Should I just go that route?

My opinion - If you have to ask - go pre-fab. That is to say that if you're not confident enough in you're fab/tig skills/judgment, That I wouldn't do it.

If properly done I think it would be fine.

I would go with the Momo one if you have to choose between the 2.

if you have the tig and the ability to splice the two straight, (turn one, drill the other) then do it to it man.

pull that airbag off and sell it to an insurance company for $800+ before something bad happens

Well, I already have the wheel, hub and weld on spline from Kartek, but after looking at Momo's site, they definately make some nice steering wheels. Not sure what I'm gong to do yet. I will keep posted on what I decide and end up doing. Also going to get my star on here so I can start posting photos of the Taco I'm building up. Stay Tuned!

I'll call the guy that sold mine for me back in the day. He was a repo driver.... I'd imagine he still has plenty of contacts.
