My mustang would run great then die, and 20-30 mins later be fine again. My issue was my fuel pump was overheating, replaced it and havent had the issue since.

So I want to sell this thing. I'm thinking about fixing everything that up with it and looking for $13k. I want to race. Building this runner was a wrong move. I'll sell it for $10k without the birfs and I'll swap in a 14b without an arb.

well, with little interest in the runner im thinking about making this thing a Mod Class racers.
ive been doing a lot of reading about using a DE ram as a tie rod/ram for hydro assist and im thinking about doing it. going to be buiding a whole new and improved 3 link using an FJ80 box again, much longer panhard and my 2.5x1.5x8 doubled ended ram as the tierod. im going to build my highsteer arms into a artec wanna be set up and run mid steer. ill be leaving the DE ram where it is, the panhard will mount off the ram mount infront of the DE ram and draglink. i will be able to swap out my orbital for a box and back again with little effort. as well as removing and install the upper link on the pass side. and again removing and installing the panhard/draglink easily. should be able to either run a 4 link full hydro, or a 3 link hydro assist with 30 min of work. also, the new rules will need a 2x4 frame from motor mounts to back of front seats. ill need to add to my 2x3 for about 10" which wont interfere with anything. ill be cutting the rear frame off and building a new one for a 4link and new fuel cell. then, full 2" interior cage, install my window-less doors and rear hatch. i know im all about how heavy this thing is, but i think with good shock tuning and keeping the current weight it will be much better than poor tuning and 1000lbs lighter.

now your just going back and forth which makes no sense. then trying to "race" which im pretty sure means more or less attempt LCQ, sounds like a ton of work. racing isnt in your or 98% of peoples budget. why dont you just part the thing out. basically keep everything but the frame and the cab. sell off all of it thats functional and works that you dont want. you could recoup plenty of money for some new tools and a boat load of tube to build a chassis. just build a buggy out of everything you have. it would be 2000lbs lighter and you wouldnt have to worry about some body getting beat. or.....get another 2nd gen cab and do it up like your old truck but with the powertrain you have now in it. that or a buggy seems a lot cooler to me than trying to go for LCQ once. forget the snow, its gay anyways. its cool to get a fix once a year and thats about it. you can take a buggy up there, just go when the weather is perfect out. the snow will guaranteed suck but whatever, you were able to go up there.

I have to agree with Kyle. You dont want the runner, so why keep it and build it to race. You already know its heavy as fuck which is annoying and will be top heavy like a mother Fucket after you cage it. I say sell the bitch, build a buggy or build a first gen again if you want to have a body. Runners are for old people anyway

If it wasnt done pop the back bead and wrap the wheels with 3 wraps of duct tape so the back beads dont leak. I hope those are a stepping stone, keep the wheels and sell the tires. After running 2 set's of them I can honestly say I will never run a maddog again

I have a 2.5 1.5 shaft ram is ~25 cu in in either direction. A 1.5 .625 shaft is ~14 cu in extended and ~11.5 retracted. I am fairly positive on that too, but I will admit math isn't my best subject. I was thinking a 2" bore 1.25 shaft double ended ram would be better which is ~15 cu in in each direction.

You are correct. I should probably step down in ram size for that. It's about the same as my 2" ram I had before, a little slow for power slides, but worked well Offroad.
And ya, the 2x8x1.25 ram is 15.32 each way which is only a hair more than a 1.5" SE @ 14.16 cu/in.

It's expensive, STUPID STUPID STUPID expensive. Even on the "cheap" it's expensive. It makes a wheeler look like chump change... Safety equipment, is one of the biggest $$$. And then you should budget ~$400 in "wear" items for every weekend you race. If you are talking about rally racing, then that gets even worse. With all racing the question is "when will i crash my car?" but with rally racing the question is "how many times will i crash my car this year?" I got out of it because of rules/bullshit/drama. But also for the $$$ i was spending every penny to race, plus some one credit. Even a "cheap" class like SM, or nasa's SE30 is expensive. I don't think you could race one of those for less than $800 a weekend. And that's being a cheap cheap cheap cheap cheap cheap SOB. |

You could always build/buy an Ftoy and race relatively cheaply that way. It may not win KOH but it would get you seat time and a glimpse of what competition is all about.

Id buy a frame and transfer all ur gear over to it. Remember thews runners buggy? Toy 3.4, etc in a trent fab chassis... It was badass! I wouldnt wanna sell stuff in the current market/economy.... You have lots of good parts u can use and not loo$e ur ass selling stuff .40-.60 cents on the dollar

its pointless to race this runner callen.....think about it for longer than 12 hours. just build a buggy out of your shit and sell the body/frame.

Trash the hell out of it and drive it like the old truggy till you get sick of it. By then cut it up and recycle whats left. We all knew what was going to happen to this rig when the build started

I like the line of thought, but I don't think it would work that well in practice. Kind of like the whole part-time racer thing though... sounds good, but probably not very practical/realistic. |
