I have a complete 4.3 under hood wiring harness and both of the under dash dammits to make a 4.3 go, IN A BOX, I'm swapping in a edelbrock intake, carb, hei dist. 3 wires, hot to battery, ignition to coil, ignition to starter...More or less. Too many wires gave me a headache...Three feet below my shoulders. So I went retro to something that I understand.

I have a '94 4.3L vin W ( vortec CPI) with 4L60E Automatic in my '86 runner(CA smog Legal). I wired everything together from the factory harnesses using the factory manuals. GM dealer gave me the name of the company that makes their manuals and I ordered a Toyota factory wiring manual from Toyota. I'd say start with getting those manuals and I can probably dig up most of my old notes. I connected all gauges and lights except the oil pressure gauge. Never could get it to work so I installed aftermarket. Also tach is not accurate, but otherwise all works great. What resources do you have and how far along are you?
