Long Block less the timing chain cover..what are they smoking?
I got a kick out of this, seeing a head gasket installed on a long block without the timing chain cover..
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-22R-o...adf762&vxp=mtr I guess this is the new 'rebult' deal..how do we know how much the timing chain cover has to be machined now to match the engine?

I guess I've never thought about it before, but I've never taken my timing cover down to the machine shop with the block to be machined. At least the blocks he is selling are late model blocks that you can still find timing covers for.

Remanufactured: A properly rebuilt automotive part. The item has been completely disassembled, cleaned, and examined for wear and breakage
I believe the proper way to do a head gasket is to install the timing chain cover first..

They probably don't get any cores that have good covers.
I guess you could go get an aftermarket Dorman cover. http://www.jegs.com/i/Dorman-Product...rentProductId= Take it and the long block to the machine shop so they could measure and machine accordingly. It would suck to always have a crank seal leak. But I really wonder what their tolerance is for decking a block? Maybe they only machine the heads?
