Not positive, but I think the 3rd gen 4R/Tacoma front diffs are different than the earlier IFS trucks, they do share some parts, but I don't think you could physically swap the whole thing out:
it may be out of a 95. they are both passenger side drop. the only difference is the 95's has a electronic box mounted to the front of the long side tube. Mabey I can remove the long side and swap it on to the differential out of the 86. The bolt pattern is the same, but what is under the electronic box and what does it do? I believe it may be something for the automatic hubs.
That's the vacuum actuated ADD (automatic differential disconnect) and it will bolt right in. You can disable the ADD or you can swap the tubes, either way will work.
