So I live in a PLANNED community in San Diego. I just recieved a letter in the mail..."there is to be no automovtive or constructive work done on, in, or around any homesite"
So I was fined $500.
To top it all of, I just purchased a complete 83 longbed...minus running engine. So I had it parked down the block...outside of the PLANNED community. Well it was towed today while I was slaving away.
To top it off, because of some lameAZZ, the towing company wants 235.00 for the truck--and $50 a day for storage...counting today. I purchased the long bed for $400,so now I will be Fawked on the 90 ext cab swap. :mad3:
i was threatened by the city 3 times, third one came with a court date and a potential $2500 fine. i cleaned up my junk and moved all my fab junk and vehicle(s) to my brothers house in the country. took pics of my finished vehicle and spotless driveway/front yard and the judge dropped the charges(he drove a jeep willy's)...
I got a call from my hoa last week saying 'call us back concerning the 4x4 vehicle'.
so i call back and he says "the pointy thingy (the stinger) is sticking out too close to the sidewalk and people are walking into it, and it has 2 flats"
I explained how I took the valve guts out of the tires so its a little more difficult to steal (since it was parked outdoors for a few weeks). And would roll it back further and put a red rag on the stinger to keep from banging kiddies in the heads.
I guess I got off easy, especially w/ broken birf guts all around it, and the stench of gearoil in the air.
i lived in a managed community for a while. they tried to tell us to get rid of our (indoor) cats. we told them to buzz off ,they threatened to fine us , then my wife started driving the sheriffs cars home, and for some reason they left us alone after that. even when i replaced the head on my 86 2WD pickup lol.
I would recommend renting a shop, but if that's not an option...
Read the rules in your agreement carefully, and I bet you $1.00 you find a loophole.
If not, I bet you $2.00 that if you get semi-familar with the rules, you can find several other violations being committed by other neighbors. When you do, play the discrimination card. I'm sure that you are 1/64th something, or you can make a case for someone on the board having a personal problem with you or something
So, send the hoa a letter stating that you will sue if they do not cease and desist from perpetrating the hostile persecution. If they are not enforcing 100% of the rules to 100% of the residents, tell them to kiss your ass.
You did read the CCR's before you signed I hope, when we bought our house T ask me what I wanted in a new home. I said, faces North, three car garage, and no fucking HOA!!!!!!!!!
Love not having to deal with HOA. My other answer is that when it snows, I'm out there with my Bobcat clearing the snow out of all my neighbors' driveways. Makes them a little more forgiving of some of the other stuff I do!

my parents just moved out to bilby meadows out in elk grove... ive lived here two months and the first three days of living there i got 7 complaints by neighbors about that big black piece of shit 82 toyota out front of my house.... The first thing i did was wash it since it was covered in mud... So all the mud washed into the street and a cop comes mosying down the street and rights me up a $35 find for having mud on the street... in the county of elk grove mud and dirt is prohibited on the street.. So i made these quick release door hinges and as im takin the doors off in my driveway a cop comes driving by again... This time he gets me for workin on my truck inthe driveway... i was only taking the doors off so i could hose the insides down since i had mud everywhere.... Now im gettin warnings for working to late in my garage... neighbors complained that kids kept watching the veryblue light... HAHAHAHA
I can do all i want in my garage and not get fined for it but have a truck in my driveway that supposedly defaces property... I hate these fawkin stuck up rich motherfawkers who bitch and rant on you then ask you do fix their brakes the next day....
that clause makes the HOA responsible for interior damage due to whatever reason, be it fire theft or adherence to this rule (repainting is considered "construction",along with cabinet replacment, installation of fixed appliances -heater /ac unit.water heater etc). so if your water heater leaks ,send them a letter informing them that they are responsible for the interior damage as they have forbade you from fixing it via that clause.
/*edit*/
this is probably the mains erason my fromer HOA left us alone. they claimed the cats would cause interior damage. i said oh yea? well then i will inform my insurance co that you own the some 15,000 for fire damage form the previous year.
about hte same time my wife started driving the cop car home .

By the way I live in 4S ranch. And it technequly(sp) is not my house. I took over the payments for my mother while she is traveling abroad, so I CANNOT sell yet. Maybe VERY soon. I am looking for a space to rent, but I JUST got all the stuff set up. Plus I re-wired the garage for 220V w/ a subpanel.
I have a mill, tig 225, plasma 1500, tall azz tool box, and a large welding table. I was just waiting on the tubing bender to start my project. Well I guess that will be on hold until I figure out where to move all the stuff.
IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A PLACE CLOSE>>>PLEASE PM ME!!!
You should be able to do what you want in your garage. maybe try and be a bit discrete. grinders are pretty loud but maybe some loud music would cover that up
Ok, now I know why they're so strict. TYpical overly broad CCR's. ANd that development( master planned community) is supposed to be "already perfect", I guess. It ceratinly was reflected in the housing prices over there.
Sorry for your plight. I used to cruise out there when there was more farmland and you could take Black Mountian road all the way down..
You get some of that good Bewise RaNCH Produce?
I live about 4 miles east of you over by Pomerado Hospital.
We just bought a house and while we were looking everytime we went to a house i was like oh ya, i am not even going to be able to move in. I could only imagine the neighbors standing on their porches as the older deisel tow rig with rust on it pulls in with the yota on the back. So we settled on a neighborhood, slightly older where their was no HOA fees and i saw neighbors with campers and trailers. People who live in HOA have no lives or hobbies, they go to work, come home and sit and watch TV until they have to do it again. Even if my house doesn't apreciate as fast i rather have neighbors that have low riders as long as they are into iy and have a fricken hobby.
And I thought Minnesota was the state where nothing is allowed.
When I lived in a hoa townhouse. I painted three trucks (one twice ). Work on them all the time. The guy next door rebuit and painted a couple of Harley's. I guess I was lucky.
You need to move to Minnesota, of course good luck finding a place to wheel. Unless you like mud, I hate mud.
this hoa subject has been beaten to death. if you read the rules and didn't agree-then don't live there. a hoa with comprehensive restrictions will not back down because the entire document is then unenforcable. so if you want an expensive fight, then pick one with a hoa with enforcement on their mind. you will spend your time and money, but they will win and collect fees plus fines even if they are required to lien the property. statistically, (believe it or not) most homeowner's WANT hoas with strong organization, covenants, and enforcement so that the conditions around their big investment are predictable and controlled. been dealing with these things for 30+ years and the issues remain exactly the same. fair or not, these communities aren't for wheelers fabbing their own junk.
I used to live in a neighborhood with a HOA. It was horrible to say the least..and I was only 15 at the time. One next door neighbor would constantly complain about my portable basketball hoop being left outside. THey didnt allow permanent hoops, and it was a pain for me to bring it into the garage nightly, so alot of the time I left it outside. We started getting letters from the HOA saying they were going to fine us because no basketball hoops were allowed outside when not in use! My dad just told me to not worry about it and just go play basketball, he thought it was ridiculous. This neighbor that complained had no kids and had no concept of a neighborhood..he would yell at my younger sister..and the other kids. Anyways, I didnt help the situation considering when the basketball would land in his yard i would always make sure to trample around. We finally got letters saying they were going to take us to court over this, it was a joke and my dad was sick of it and hated the HOA. They will go after certain homeowners but others will get away with weeds all over, and all kinds of stuff. We eventually moved out, that neighbor moved just before us too...dont let them hassle you. Read through your rules thorougly and like 3dog mentioned, you will eventually find a loophole. Good luck...

I live in an area with an HOA. I put up a new fence. The HOA told me to take it down, citing that it was in front of my "set back" line and if I delayed, it was going to cost me $30/day. I took it down, found out later that it was well behind the set-back line.
I threatened to sue, but the board said that they'd let all the neighbors know who ran up the legal fees and caused the additional assessments.
This year, I got even... Before the election, I went to a number of neighbors and got proxy votes. I can to the election with enough proxy votes to get a place on the board.
Now I am the HOA, at least 1/3 of it...
Being in that position, I find it very unlikely that you were fined $500 off the cuff - usually you'll get a notice and in fact, Cali is one of the more regulated HOA states - I believe it's not legal to fine you without a 30 day notice.
If you did get fined without notice, email me - I'll see if I can help you.
that sucks dude! My parents moved our family to Overland Park, KS when I was in high school--it's a wanna be swanky-ass area and I got the cops called on me for skateboarding in front of our house. Apparently there is a city ordinance that says no skateboarding on public sidewalks, streets or parking lots within city limits... I thought that was total bullshit, and we ended up getting the city to build a skatepark so that we would have a place to do it... same typical people with $$ in your area doin the same thing "that truck is ugly"..... yeahh when I visit my parents the neighbors I'm sure don't like the big ugly green toyota sittin out front but fukk em.... As far as your rules go, keep ur shit in your garage or under a tarp/car cover and they can't do sh!t... Good luck with the 83, sounds like more to get it out of the towing lot than it's worth.. that sucks dude
