Does anyone have any pics of some trucks(prefably tacomas) that are running full width axles? I am trying to find some pics and I have been through almost all of the pics posted here. I would like to see how far they stick out on a truck similar to mine. Let me know if you are running alot of back spacing on the rims. How do you feel about going full width? Pros and cons. I know about having problems fitting on some trails, but what else. What do you have to make the full width street legal? Anyways I am trying to figure out what way to go. I want to run 37's. Thanks for the help.
i have dana 60's under mine. Mine is a older toyota. I am running 39" Iroks. I think the first choice you need to make is what type of wheeling do you do. There are advantages and Disadvantages to full width. On the trail it would be fine. If you plan on being in a competition it would could hurt you. I am not sure on the street legal aspect. I know some states have a law that if your tire sticks outside the fender you have to have fender flares or something like that. Thats what i herd anyways. I am sure there are trails that would be hard to get on, where we live that is not much of an issue. Full width gives you better stability, but a worse turning radius. Unless you have an atlas so you can twin stick it. I know on some of the obsticles here the lines work good for a narrow axle, but can make a full axle take harder lines. My opion is do what you think will work best for your rig and your area. Hope that helps. good luck
not a taco but i am running a 69" chevy d44 in the front and a 66" ford 9" in the back. i have 3-5/8 back spacing on my wheels. i have never been pulled over but at least three times, an officer has come up to me at gas stations making me aware that i NEED mud flaps and some sort of fenders covering the top of the tires. i put quick release mud flaps on when on the street. the way i see it, it wont matter if i have fender flares or not if a cop WANTS to pull me over. as far as handeling on the street, it is great.
the full width does have some down sides. the main one i have found is hanging up on rocks with the diff. being wider sometimes means that you can't go around an obsticle and puts the diff into a rock. my solution was going to a bigger tire. i will see if it works out when the snow starts melting. it does feel super stable when side helling tho. i kept my rig low and have almost no fear of tipping it over.
i'll get some more soon, right now the priority is getting it running on all 4 cylinders.
there are a few more shots around post 176-177 on this thread. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=227069&page=8&pp=25 i don't have a good front pic yet showing how wide it is with the new tires
I have been to ttora.com and gont through the pics of SAS and others. It is hard for me to tell what axles are full width with all the fenders missing, backspacing on the rims, and the lack of knowledge. Thanks for the help so far. What difference would the twin stick atlas make for me? I do not know anything about those to tell you the truth. I have to admit that 4runner is sweet. I haven't seen that one around folsom. Thanks for the help. You guys in the toyota section give me alot more help than what I get in the jeep section for the jeep. I think it is time to get rid of the jeep to fix up the truck. Are there any other pics with specs? Thanks.

I have a 65" D44 under the front of my taco. I run 37 MTR's on 15x10" wheels with 4" backspacing and it is streetable. all I have are paper pics and my scanner isn't hooked up so not much help but if your going to swap go full width. I love being wider up front, it makes it feel very stable and you can get a HPD44 instead of the waggy 44. The extra 2.5" width on each side up front is not very noticeable unless you are behind or infront of the truck. After two years of street driving I have yet to get pulled over for being to wide up front and I just use crappy 2" flares.
Also, every other taco SAS guy I have talked to wished they went full width after seeing my truck
You guys with the full width fronts are running stock rear? I am not sure on the price or the size, but I was thinking along the lines of HPD44 front full width with a D60 rear. I am not sure of the size in the rear or really anything about the D60. I will have to research that later. What tire size can the stock axle handle? I don't know too much aboutthe toyota axles. I know they are supposed to be bulletproof and many people like them. Thanks for th epictures, keep them comming if you have them. If I got a 65"-69" front D44 can you make the stock rear that same size. Maybe with some wheel spacers and some back spaced rims? I am not sure on the stock size. Would that make for a weak axle? Then I guess you could go with a T100 rear because those are wider. Yet anothe thing that I have to research. Is a D60 rear stronger than a T100 rear? Probably I guess it is a 1 ton axle. I have soo much stuff to research I will never be done. I might have to go into a local shop and talk to some people. Thanks guys.
Id max the toy rear at 37-38. However, brace that housing up, or crush it. The shafts are alos fairly weak in these. One trip on ours bent a rear shaft. So plan on cromo shafts in a SF, or swap in our FF. Also, we can do a FF kit, widening the rear 3". Or swap in a t100 rear at 66" wide. A 60 rear will have stronger gears, but only 30 spline. If you want to go cheap, swap in a 14 bolt, and do an 8 lug 44. So yeah, youve got a few choices to make.
