don't know, but i can give you an awesome cheap mod to do:
I was in Moab the week before EJS. Ihave an 83 with IFS box and crossover with 35's. The pump was getting extremely hot and making noise....not letting me turn.
I went to carquest (awesome bunch of guys there), got the cheapest tranny cooler ($30) and hooked it up in line with the resevoir/pump return, and the thing worked awesome. Ran some mercon V fluid too. I think part of the reason of getting hot was not running a steering stabalizer....allowing quicker movement/vibration of the fluid, heating it and thinning it.
Anyway, it worked well on mine, so my buddy did it to his grand cherokee the next day.
Just picked up a cooler at P-N-P. $10.00 out of 80's model Ford Aerostar. They are mounted behind the frontbumber. Noticed at TDS my steering was running hot, I was pucking fluid out of the reservoir!!!!!
No, because it just helps increase the flow capability, and if you're not running hydro assist, then you don't need any extra flow because the stock setup is more than sufficient for just the steering box.
I run 36in iroks on my 82 with ifs and hysteer and it sucks. Doesn't want to turn half of the time. The mod won't help with that? Will it damage the box?
ok benny said it helps and erikB says it wont do crap. come on guys im easily confused
has anyone done this? if so what was the outcome? i wouldnt expect a huge difference but a little goes a long way sometimes. i plan on going hydro sooner or later but no funds now.
It must help because from the 4.3 swaps I have done when you run the saginaw P/S pump it does help with steering effort a hare. (saginaw pump is a higher flow than the toy junk off the shelf)
Benny was replying to the post above his with the guy who has hydro assist.
With HA, it definitely WILL make a big difference. With just a stock box, not much.
Its easy/free, so it can't really hurt to try it though.

Sorta. I had 2" BS 15x10 wheels with 38.5 SXs and NO Hydro assist. I had a modded pump and it would turn easier than my stock '85 toyota truck with 3.5" BS 8" wheels and 31s.
i wouldnt drill it out unless you are putting ram assist on your truck. cause some ps pumps make noise after drilling them out. plus you are running 33's you shouldnt have any problems turning. just put a cooler on it and call it done.

The problem with not turning is not so much tire size as it is spacers and offset wheels. On a stock setup, the pivot point is close to the contact point for the tire on the ground. As we put in spacers and offset wheels, the tire no longer pivots but has to scrub. As the left tire rolls forward turning the wheel, the right tire must roll backwards. Therein lies the problem. And if it is locked or spooled, this just will not happen when standing still. A ram does not change those rules, it just has more muscle to force it.
