When I am in nuetral and the clutch engaged, my truck (22r, g52) runs fine...when I depress the clutch pedal, the motor bogs down bad....sometimes the fawker dies :shaking: . I've check the clutch fluid and bled the clutch system, what else should I check or what the fawk is wrong with this truck? Is it just time to buck up and replace the clutch and slave cylinder along w/ the throwout bearing, etc?
I don't think your problem is MC/SC related. If, as you say, the truck stumbles as you depress the clutch pedal then the throw-out bearing is binding up real bad. Anyhow I believe you're gonna have to split the tranny/engine and see exactly what's wrong clutch-wise.
Not sure what year your truck is but it is very common to see the engine crank shaft thrust washers wear out on 79-84 applications. It can also happen on later motors but not as common.
When the thrush washers wear out the crank shaft moves forward when you push in the clutch. This causes interference with the crank and makes a "whooshing" noise or a "tapping/slapping" noise.
Chris, you were right. Yesterday I pulled the tranny/case to see what was going on...and just as you said, I am 99.9% positive my thrust bearings took a crap. I ordered a set of thrust washers for it and with any luck may that will be it. Clutch, throwout bearing pressure plate, etc. looked fine so actually this will be a cheaper repair than I thought if its just the thrust washers. My only fear is that it tore up my crank too bad to reuse. If thats the case, I'll be looking for either a good short block or a rebuidable core since my top end only has bout 6000 miles on it.
But what has casued the thrust washer to fail so soon.(assuming you've rebuilt the lower end within the same 6k as the top end)
