i baught a yukon spool for my toyota axel for some reson the ring gear wont fit on to the spool the bolt holes line up but the ring gear will not slip on it just a little smaller is it posible they gave me a v6 spool does anyone no if the v6 spools have a larger inside diameter on the ring or was it not milled right i just dont no i guess i will call the place i baught it from in the morning and chek part numbers any help would be graet and i did a search and didnt ever find any probs like this
Ring gears are an interference fit, the FSM says to heat the ring rear to 230 F.
Put the spool in the freezer overnight and heat the ring gear up, I have always used a pan the ring gear will fit in filled over the top of the gear with oil, heat it slowly. I use my camp stove in the garage because neither my Mom or my wife will let me do it in the house. They say it stinks the house up!!!!! :grinpimp:

If you don't want to boil it in oil you can use water and a hot plate or simply just throw it in the oven @225* but, bottom line, it must be heated. Mayhap you should be lettin' someone else install the gears if you din't know that.

  The way I do it is to tap with a hammer along the ring gear, it takes patience but it gets the job done. You can also do it with some longer bolts and tighten them and the ring wil seat itself...

I'm pretty sure my Yukon spool is Aluminum. I think if I tried to "tap" the ring gear onto it it would shave the ridge on the spool and prevent the ring gear from seating fully/properly. Anyway, why tap the RG on when it's so much easier/faster to heat it (by any number of methods)?
I couldn't help myself.... :grinpimp: ...scroll halfway down in this link to the pic of the me filing the ring-gear. I have a procedure there... http://gearinstalls.com/tucson1.htm
i will try heating it i just didnt understand cause the 529 ring gear bolted right on to the old carrier but not the spool and yes this is the first time ive tryed this but i have to learn some how :flipoff2:
BTW, I bought the V6/5.29/EZ from Josh and am running it in the back of my rig, along with the blingin' 4340 shafts from Pig (via Marlin). Nice work, and no problems so far.

Since you built your whole truck in the woods, I would have guessed you would have tapped it on with a log or a big rock and I kind of figured you didn't have an oven to use
Not the one I saw, it was steel. In fact in my forty years of building go fast shit and go slow shit I have never seen a spool or mini-spool made of alum. Think about it, how long would the alum splines last with hardened steel axles!!!!!! :grinpimp:
Well, I will have to admit that my spool don't look like yours. I bought it with a Yukon gear set and it's def AL, much like the spools listed at JEGS # 873-D1548 or 873-D1512 or 873-D1513.

Spool installs include 3 Dana 44 rears(Yukon). 5 pairs of Jeep axles(30/35) w/ Detroits or welded. 2 Toy diffs. A couple of Detroit Gearles lockers. 2 L/S rebuilds. A shit load of pinion bearings for dumbasses who waited to long to change u- joints............
Looks EXACTLY like the Yukon D44 spools I intalled.
Does FRANKENTOY have the same blackened spool or not.
