Never owned anything but radials on my fourwheeling rigs, the first one because it was a daily driver (BFG Muds) and the second because the guy I bought it off ran MTR's. Very happy with both, good wear on the BFG's...time will tell on the MTR's. Both very quiet (not that I care now since I don't drive my trail rig on a daily basis), good in the rain, great on rocks, both ok in mud with the BFG's perhaps a little better. I have always wanted a set of Boggers. Seen them in action plenty in the mud, and know that they are tough. Not opposed to grooving them either. Want to hear from people with personal Bogger use on the rocks. I know that they are not as good as say the MTR's but I need a more serious tire for mud use. My wheeling consists of a 50/50 muddy hill climb, mud/hard core rocks split. How bad are Boggers on a light and underpowered but well geared (205:1) Toy on the rocks? Should I just stick with my MTR's? Would you consider IROK's or Krawlers also?
I think you'd be happier with IROKs. Boggers weigh a LOT and they aren't going to be as good as some TSLs or SXs. I run some 35/16 Boggers and love them for the mud and rock combos, but my rig has a new engine with a good amount of power. I have no problem spinning the tires through 2nd gear with the 4.10s and I drive my rig daily.
I wouldn't sell my Boggers for some IROKs, but I would definately take some over the BFGs I used to run. My next set of tires will be some 38.5 or 39.5 Boggers. I say ask one of your friends to run the Boggers on your rig and then see if you like them.
Also, my rig is pretty light. I've taken the tailgate and spare off, run very small bumpers, 4ft exhaust with no cat or emissions, interior has been stripped, and I'm about to get some half/tube doors.
couple of guys in the club run boggers exclusively and love them. from what they said it was a wash as far as traction between boggers and iroks, tsl's, etc. when the rocks were wet. in mud they definitely own, but wet rock most tires have toruble with.
We wheel up and down the east coast. Tellico, WV, Big Dogs in VA coming soon. I have seen Boggers for many years in the mud and know that they set the standard, but having zero personal experience with them and not having run them back to back (which I feel you really need to do in the same day and on the same rig and on the same trail to get a fair assessment) I just wanted to know if I would be losing any traction on dry rocks vs my 35x12.5 MTR's on 15x8's. If I go with a Bogger I am going to go with a 35x14.50 (since there are no 12.50's) on a 15x10 beadlock. I really need the extra width for stability as my rig is a little tall and narrow. I am wondering if I am going to do as well on the rocks given that I will have less contact pressure due to the extra width and harder compound. My rig is great on the dry rocks now, but as I mentioned is lacking in it's performance in other terrain save the hwy with who cares about when you tow your trail rig. Also I have zero clerance issues now, should I see some with that size bogger? Know every rig is different, I was just looking to see if anyone has moved up from my size to the one that I am thinking of. If so I will just saw. And while I am thinking of it my last toy a 93 had 4.5" of backspacing from the factory. I have no idea what the stock backspacing is on the stock 85's.
i wheeled with some guys in moab before that was running boggers, they would not stick as well as mtr's and ssr's even at low psi.i wheeled hot springs with dan dibble and some of his buddies and there boggers hooked up well in that terrian...
