I just put together a front shaft using a 80' Toy CV/shaft and used my IFS slip joint. It's not permanent but it will let me know if my ARB is fuctioning properly.
My ? Is the any audible sound when you engage an ARB? and Should the compressor kick on and off when you do activate the ARB? It seems to work in 4wd, but I don't feel any pull to the left or right that accompanies a front locker. Thanx tom

No reason for a front drive shaft to see if your arb's working just jack up one tire (hubs locked) arb engaged tire sould not turn disengaged tire sould turn simply you should here soom lite gear clicking type sound when arb is unlocked and your spinning one tire by hand also a soft click may be heard when engaging probably will not hear any thing with the engine running. The factory compressor will run intermit to maintain correct presure you may be able to lock and unlock several times with out the compressor running at all hope this helps peace

Jack up both wheels, lock the hubs, engage the locker and turn the wheel, both wheels should turn if it is engaged.
Or you can do it like I did and engage the locker with the hubs locked in and side step the clutch and see if both wheels peel out. Do you mean the pump never comes on? If after it first comes on and fills the tank I can to on and off before it comes on again. Do you have two ARB's if you only have one and you have the ARB wiring harness you have to wire it to the wires for the back one even if it is in the front. With the stock ARB harness you cannot engage the front locker with out the back one being turned on. [ 08-21-2001: Message edited by: OPP'S ]

Thanx for the replies.
i know I could've jacked up the truck but with the shaft I have reason to screw around w/the truck alittle. I just didn't want to wait to finish my square shaft. I have the harness hooked up to factory specs. the rear arb wiring has power and is in its plug and taped up for it doesn't short anything. When I first put power to the compressor(hooked thru the key) it pumped, filled the tank and stopped. I did pull the air line to see if the compressor would kick on after it used some of its stored air. It did start pumping so the compressor works. Does the Arb need to have movement to lock or can you be stopped and engage it from a stand still? In the morning i guess I'll jack it up to find out if its functioning. I just figured this is the place to find out first hand how these units operate. Noone I know has one. Thanx tom

Like I said before, if you only have one ARB you have to wire the switch to the one for the rear even if it is in the front and you have to wire the solenoid to the wires for the rear. The is a so-called safety feature that will not allow the wires for the front to energize unless there is a switch and solenoid on the rear wires. Use the wires for the rear locker if you are only running one ARB whether it is in the front or rear.
