Post toyota electric lockers

what can i expect to pay for one from the dealer, or whats the best place to find on.
i've checked all the junk yards around here and cannot find one.

what gears (ring and pinion ratios) do they come with?

will they work with the 4 banker axle stuff or will the shafts have to modified?

is just easier to get a detriot or lockright?

thanks, i'm sure the subject has been beaten into the ground by now.

Cost new is about $740 from a dealer.

I got mine from Jay Mark's Toyota.

Yes, I installed mine in a 1985 4Runner.

Lockright is easier but you have to have your gears setup for a detroit.

4.10, 4.30, 4.56.

The lockers Jim@Inchworm sells are NEW. He can also provide you with a modified axle. 4.56 is the tallest gear set known at this time from the dealer (4.88 are rumored). Jim set up mine with 4.88. Jim also modified my rear axle. What a guy

Can I run these in my diffs w/ 5.29 or do I have to get new gears special for the e-locker?

The low pinion E-locker uses the same gears as a V-6 3rd member does. The hi pinion FJ80 e-locker uses reverse cut gears so you would need to get those. 5.29's are available. I have them in my 87 4Runner

Arb $650x$650+ARB pump $200=$1500
EL $750x$750= $1500
Looks like the same price to me, + you get free pumpkin all set up with new gears and bearing, if you want bigger then 4.56 it will still cost you the same for gears either way. It's just which do U want a wire or a hose?

i have an arb and i still would rather have a electric locker. i could be wrong but it seems like there is less stuff to fail with the EL. both seem to work awsome though.

beasttoyota4x4,

As Pappy said, the diffs are brand new. Karl listed the ratios. Thanks guys! I can order other gearsets in if you like (4.88 or 5.29) They run $220, and setup is $200.

For $750 you get one complete electric locking third member. You will also need a harness to plug into the diff so you can wire it up ($35) and two studs which you will install when you modify your axle housing to accept the diff(~$5).

I can do the housing mods for $125 and I will include the studs, new axle seals, and a pretty paint job.

Ya, well, I've heard the compressor is worthless inflating tires. A buddy has an ARB on his FJ60, and he sure doesn't use it for anything else except the lockers.

No one, but no one builds parts like the factory.... well maybe some million $ + race teams.

When you see a product made for OEM use, or serious endurance race use, then you'll see it on my vehicle. Granted, sometimes cost is an issue... if it was a real issue though, you wouldn't see lockers in oem applications.

Just to clarify, to get an electric locked diff with 4.88's, it would be $750 + $220, assuming I get a buddy to set up the diff, right? Or does that complete third member price include 4.88's?

YOu got it man. that compressor would inflate a 35" tire from 8 psi to something driveable in about 10 mins a tire. definitely not much CFM going through it. even with a storage tank it would take forever. As much as that compressor costs and the purpose it serves (to run the lockers) i surely wouldn't want to burn it up.
