22re smog removal

Only found stuff relating to 22r's under the search.

How much can you remove as far as smog/emissions stuff with out removing too much?? Is it basically just a matter of removing smog pump, blocking EGR and plugging vacumn lines?? What vacumn lines should be left alone?? What else should I avoid?? Thanks

I removed the EGR and all related components on my truck. The only vacuum lines I have hooked up are, vacuum booster, PCV hose front and rear, line to power steering thingy and vacuum hose to charcoal canister for the fuel tank.

Arnold so you kept the PCV but removed the BVSV (sp?). I am converting my 22R to RE as we speak and did block off the EGR by making a plate.

Actually, the BVSV is still on the intake. I just removed the lines going to it. I really didn't want to search/buy a plug for it.

Had to pull this back from the dead. I am trying to delete all the unessacary (sp) shit on my 87 with 22re as I am going to dovetail my front end and lose my inner fenders. The lessshit I have to relocate or even have under the hood the better so what has to stay?

Only thing other than PCV on my motor is the VSV for the fuel pressure regulater. Everything else is gone. Runs good, but I am throwing a code after running for a few minutes.

You can eliminate that VSV, I've run mine w/o one for years:

And it is not related to smog, so no issues with it's removal. Supposedly there to prevent some sort of hot start issue, but I have never encountered that problem since removing the VSV.

egr is a good thing. helps reduce pinging by cooling the combustion chamber.

your engine will last longer and run cleaner if you dont F with the egr. dont think by disconnecting the egr, it will gain power.

Yeah when gas is $4+ a gallon remove the EGR. It only improves MPG keeps detonation down at steady cruise and helps prevent burning valves. When operating properly it never hurts performance. Its not needed becasue you don't understand what it does.

While you are at it pull the EVAP can too. It only takes fuel fumes and burns them. After all burning fuel vapor is stupid when you can dump it to atmosphere and then instead of you fuel system being totally closed and water proof and pulling water vapor out of the tank and flowing it in through the intake air charge where it won't hurt anything you can now collect water with your fuel tank pump it through the injectors to help cool those burning valves.

Remove nothing. None of the emissions controls on a 22RE hurt performance at all. Most actually help.

The only thing I would by pass is the VSV for the fuel pressure regulator becasue chances are it doesn't work.

What is it you guys trying to gain by removing everything? You are not going to get any noticeable power gain if any.

I agree with Grim, leave it alone.

I pulled all the emmissions off my truck to get it out of the way. All that crap on the engine made it a bastid to adjust the valves and whatnot. Now that its gone I have a much nicer looking engine that still performs just like I want it to.

The only things I still have hooked up is the PCV valve, charcoal canister, fuel pressure regulator and brake booster. The rest of it got removed and the nipples got vacuum plugs.

I hooked the pressure regulator and charcoal canister to the big nut deal with 3 nipples on it in the picture 4 crawler posted. Problem solved...

If you REALLY need a pic to show you that then I guess I can snap one off for ya but its pretty damned simple...

still no pics?. and i have a 1984 runner. and the lines must be blocked by now it has to much crank case pressure/[blown a gasket].. probably from faulty PCV valve.i fixed the leak but has the pressure.[no time to look at it] im not quite ready to spend all this money on mew hoses and parts so im better off removing it....

there is no reason to remove anything but the air pump. and on a RE there is none. Fuckin maroons. I bet you think those pipes on the exhaust manifold is the EGR.

Everyone says it's good to have those things hooked up, but it really does look like a mess. Here's a before picture, and I'll post here after i pass emissions for the last time (this is an 84 celica)

Can someone chime in on the charcoal canister removal, I've searched and read all the FAQ’s and am now 4 pages back trying to find something that cover's the removal of this part of the vacuum system. I'm going to a fuel cell because I'm chopping the back off and do not need the charcoal canister setup any longer..... Any help would be appreciated thanks

I can help with that. ON my 87 2wd, the 2nd gas tank line coming into the engine bay which is supposed to have the charcoal cannister hooked up to it goes directly to a 'barb' (for lack of the right word) on the carb. The gas tank fumes will in part go right into your intake. TOUCHE!
It is the hose that starts narrow on the 2nd tank line, which gets wider and goes into the bowl of the carb, i believe.
