89 4runner help

I have a slight prob. My e-brake light and battery light are both on when the motor is running. Now owning a few yotas before the e-brake light would come on when the brake fluid was low. I checked the brake res and its looking great. Anyone have the slightest clue what could be wrong?

well what a night, insted of checking this post or really thinking about the lights I went out for a night of wheelen. The light has been on for 2 days now and tonight had to be the night I found out what it ment. I jinksed myself by going up in the hills after my buddy was asking about the lights. After dissmissing his comments we went wheelen. Half hour into our trip the lights go dim and the truck dies. I tried popping it in gear to start it and that work for about 5 min then it gave up. So we did a 8 point turn to get the truck facing down hill and costed to the freeway (10 miles, down hill. No shit) with 2 mag lights duct taped to the hood.

Then called my sponser (aka) AAA and got towed home. Threw a fresh batt in and it started right up. So from what I gather the alt is finally done after 220k . I am gonna pull it off later today after I get some sleep. Thanks for the input.

Now any have ideas for a new alt??????

Autozone sells new brushes for $10. ND Alternators are pretty tough and its usually worn out brushes that causes them to fail.

take the back cover off the alternator and its easy enough to check the brushes.

I still say the alternator. Sometimes bad alternators can test good. They can be intermittant. Look at all your grounds and make sure you don't have a drain somewhere.

It's the alt, trust me. I just went thru the exact same thing. Don't get a rebuilt unit. They are cheap crap. Get the brush kit and rebuild it yourself. 4x4wire.com has a good article. Search google for more...
