Hey everybody. I have an 85' standard cab with 40" Boogers, 3.4L with ORS conversion kit, two t-cases, 5.29s, ARBs, some other cool junk, and really big balls.I also am building an 86 extra cab desert racer. So far I got most of the cage work done, a total chaos kit(Gen 2-4wd), 3.4L w/charger and ORS kit, some sweet pro-4 mastercrafts, a custom 3-link tundra rear-end, and a 32 gallon sack. I used to mess around with my stock 85' untill I jumped too high and bent my front axle and my ass. So I thought it was time to build a better jumping truck. -Can you post pictures on this site without paying for the subscription? |

New to the pbb but not to 4 wheeling or mechanicing.
1985 Toy 4X4 2"body and 4"susp. lifts 5.29 detroit posi up front 5.29 locker in back I'm looking for info on doing a 2rz swap out of a 98 taco. If I don't find what I need in the FAQ I'll be back. Just in case someone wants to save me time of searching the FAQ I'm looking for info on whether or not the automatic tranny attached to the 2RZ will bolt up to the transfer case on my 85. I was a diver in highschool and college so walking the plank is second nature

Hello new to this forum and I am pretty impressed with what I see here. I have had my 4runner from new and have always wanted to beef it up. This looks like the site I need to get what I want to do to this old machine.

Checking in.
My name is David, and I've got an '84 pickup in more or less stock condition. The previous owner must have had it lifted (the front shackles have two spring perches, one looks to lift it about 3" or so, the rear has *gasp* blocks, which I quickly removed). The tires are shot, so I'm probably going to get 31's soon but leave it at stock ride hight until futher notice. Next step will be a locker or two... I'm sure you guys can help me with that. I'm not a complete noob to wheeling (my buddy had a nearly identical '85 pickup for years), but I'm certainly no expert. I'm certainly no noob to wrenching on cars in general. My other car is a honda that I've done everything on myself--from motor swap to head rebuild to suspension bushings, yadda yadda yadda... Cheers! Not newb on bulletin boards, not new in 4wheeling, but not extreme 4wheeling.
And I almost put apart and rebuild my entire truck I have a 86 4wd IFS p/u. I had for one year a toy 84 rig truck who died last week-end due to engine oil leak So I bought a 86 4runner who need body work, a headgasket and probably a SAS I'll use the 84 to do that. I love my p/u, but I have a 2 years old daughter, and she loves the truck. But the day i'll get another girlfriend i'll have a problem only 2 seats..(And my english is'nt perfect, i'm a french canadian) Picture of my truck after a lolcal mud drag

Checking in
desert_rat checking in as ordered.
I ahve an 86 Xcab p/u that I picked up for $250 a few months back. The motor was pretty thrashed even with relatively low miles (141K). I honed it and stuck new rings in and that stopped a really bad blow-by problem. Once I get this thing smogged, I think I'll sell the truck and start looking for a 4 runner. I have some experience trail runnning and fabbing. My best friend has a 73 Landcruiser that is heavily modified. I helped him with a lot of the work. I'm definitely mechanical so most things aren't a stretch for me. I often say that if I don't know how to do it, I'll figure it out. I could use a little help with an Aisin 2bbl carb on the 22r if anyone can answer a few ???'s Thanks! desert_rat |

Hi all, I just got given a 1990 4Runner. It has 242,000 miles and runs like a top. It just goes into first and second gear pretty hard. It'll only go into reverse if I shut the truck off first. Is there some kind of adjustment that can be made here? The guy who gave it to me just put a new master cylinder for the clutch on it. I've never owned a stick before, but it feels too hard to shift to me. He also said the clutch was only a few years old in it. I plan on taking it out for a trail run next weekend, so some help here would be great!

New to pirate
I have read aound here and on other threds and still have a question that someone might have a answer for me. I have purchased a mallory unilite distributor for an older 22r setup... i.e carb setup. I have been researching and it seems possible to hook it up on my 85 22r efi motor that is in my 86 4runner. I havent recieved my used distributor yet but it does have a mallory coil and the wiring with it in the picture it shows the wiring hooked up to a resistor. I was told it was off a 86 4runner but I dont think it is an efi setup. But with what info ive found so far it seems likes its possible.
J.P. 86 4Runner 22r,header, custom fender exit exhaust, 7" total lift,36"s for mud 31"s for fun. Front,rear locker 5.29 in back.

Im a Newbie
Im a Newbie to the site and a relative newbie to the "somewhat heavily modded" crawlin scene. I have a 95 4runner (sr5). Did the SAS about 2 months ago. I helped a little but my buddy did the majority of it in his shop. It also has a three inch body lift. Im running damn near bald 35in BFG muds. Not locked up yet, but as the money comes so will the mods (Im a poor college student). I guess thats about it. Ill be asking you guys plenty of questions as a learn more and modify more. By the way, Im from Eugene Oregon.

Not into Hardcore 4x4ing. But Would love to have a 70's-83 4x4 longbed toyota. Still looking. I love my 82 longbed, but miss having a 4x4 truck. Gas prices killed all my 70's ford 4x4 with 400 engines. Great site, plan to be looking everyday!!! |
