My 85 22re pick up tries to start, sometimes starts and idles wont take throttle and dies crank on it for another 20 times and will do it agin I think ignition is fine took boot off throttle body shot some fuel in it fired up but still wouldnt take throttle idled for couple minutes and died I think it might be fuel pump has 176,000 miles and never changed pump what is the easy way to see if getting pressure to injectors pump is a lot of $$$$$$$ so I dont want to just change it. help
Check your TPS (throttle position sensor) as well. Check 4crawler.com if your unsure how to do this. There is also the slim chance that one of the wires is broken or loose in the EFI harness, 2 injectors share a ground so if 1 goes essentially you lose 2 cylinders which would make it very difficult to start. Remove 1 of the vacuum lines on the intake and take some starter fluid or something similar with a straw attached and stick it in the hole. Spray the fluid while someone else cranks it over, if it starts and runs fine it may very well be a fuel pump or clogged filter. Hope this helps.
Use the fuel pump jumper to determine if the fuel pump is coming on. Also look for leaks in the air duct between the AFM and TPS. Mine would die
after a few seconds of starting up. Turns out when I sprayed carb cleaner on the boots the idle picked up and I figired it out.
Under the hood, on the drivers side inner fender, look for the rectangular connecter with 2 female spades in it the config is "-|". It's right under the Timing jumper and the other round one that sit in the rubber holders attached to the inner fender.
Turn the ign to on, and jump it, you will hear the pump running and the fuel flowing. Pinch the return line and you can feel it pulsing as well.
