Are the mounts for the bench seats and SR-5 bucket seats the same? Thinking of swapping my seats for SR-5 buckets in my parts truck. But my parts truck is an hour away and thought I'd ask before I go measure..
the outside holes should line up for sure... the inside holes may need a little love... and theres a possibility that the inside front holes dont have the welded nuts on the back of the rails, but its no big deal... you can through bolt them easy enough.
My '88 came with a full bench seat (not the split type) and I swapped in '88 buckets. I then, just recently, swapped in '85 buckets. No problems with mine bolting up.
As a reminder, questions like this have been amply covered in many places, such as the Should Be World Famous Barney's Toyota page. http://www.barneymc.com/Toy_root/toytop.htm
I don't see any threads about SR-5 seats, after looking through there, anyway. I see a thread about adapting OTHER bucket seats, but not factory toy bucket seats. Other threads I've seen on PBB have also talked about putting in other seats, usually honda seats. FAQ doesn't cover it. I have a star, but search is tripping a server error at the moment.
I normally would tend to agree with you that Toyota makes one style of everything and goes from there. However I'll be damned if my '86 PU(bench seat) will not accept the buckets seats from an '87 SR5 4Runner. The bolt holes just aren't there for the inner bolts.
Now this isn't a big deal, obviously I can figure something out, but I just think it's weird.
