I am lookin at puttin my ford 302 with AOD tranny in an 83 toy. I want to keep the toy T case and axles. What do you suggest? Where to get one? Thanks.
You can get the adapter to devorce it from inchworm, ott, and some where else. My recomendation is not to go through ott. I my self and MANY others have had no good experiences with them. Inch worm is the same product but much better customer service from wut i've herd.
I've got advance adapters catelog right in front of me. They have everything you need to make the conversion. All I used in mine (351W) from them was the 289/302 motor mount adapter. The engine bolted in without problems.
Northwest wanted like 275 for their motor mounts which is why I went with advanced adapters. It cost me like 130. Still alot but it saved me all the time I'd have had to take to make it.
I just installed an Advance Adapters AOD to 21-spline Toyota tcase adapter. Bolted up with no problems, works great and bought it for $300 used (never installed before). I think the adapter from advance is around $600 new. Having ordered from NWOR in the past I would NOT RECOMMEND them for any product.
Thanks for all the info guys. chicophi1 where did you get your adapter at for 300.00?
I was concidering forgetting all about the adapter idea and just running the ford T case and a set of ford axles as well. I am trying for a set of 1 tons 60s from a newer superduty truck, but will run a D44 and 9 inch if the 60s dont pan out. If I could get an adapter for 300.00 it may change my mind. I think I would be better off in the end if I run the bigger stronger axles. I also want to run a custom DOM with heims radious arm set up with coils in the front instead of the leafs.
I got the adapter from a guy on the Pirate classifieds. It was still in the box with the gaskets and hardware. I have seen them around, just gotta keep an eye out.
I decided to run the AOD to Toyota Tcase cause I had the Tcase and got the 5.0 V8 and 2wd AOD for free. I got the adapter for $300 and installed the output shaft myself. Everyone I've talked to about the AOD said that it needs several upgrades including an upgraded input shaft and shift kit if your going to run it hard. I wanted to get my truck going, so I took the easier/cheaper route for the time being.
Radius arms sounds good that's wut i'm doing.. Wut joints you using???? If you don't use the right one's with enough misalingment you'll be disappointed in the flex. I"m going to try building my own joints based off of trailer balls for unlimited flex and if they don't work i'm going to run jimmy joints from 4x4 options
