1980-1983 Toy is not charging. The wires that go to the alt are all there but I thought my old truck had some sort of rectifier or regulator that plugged into the firewall. There is a big plug that has nothing going to it at the time, white in color. Should the missing part go there? What is it called?
I figured that the power went out of the alt into this part then to the Batt. Is this correct?
Should have a regulator that is mounted on the drivers side fenderwell. If you are missing this or if its broken you got problems. Go buy a manual from a parts store it will walk you thru diagnosing the charging system. You might want to pick up a multimeter tool to double check everything.
It's a buddys truck so I aint buyin him a book. The regulator didn't seem to help. Should I be able to check it quickly by taking off the positive terminal while running and if it dies it's no good?
If the regulator is missing then it will not charge. Tell your buddy to go to the parts store and get a regulator they are like 40 bucks. He can take the alt up there and have it tested at the same time. Problem solved.
