Driveshaft breakage problems
So I've broken a few toyota driveshaft u-joints lately and I'm looking for a couple ways to upgrade.
Here's my set-up: 91 toyota pickup, chevy tbi 350 engine with th350 tranny mated to toyota dual cases with 4.7's in the rear case. I'm running a front driveshaft that's been lengthened and stock toyota u-joints. For the front I have a stock toyota front CV welded to square. I broke a rear driveshaft joint a month ago and blew out a cap on my front joint at the same time. Just today I put a new cap in my front cv because I threw another cap after the snap ring flew off a few days ago so I replaced the snap rings with full circles snap rings. Today the joint broke in half. It always seems to be the u-joint at the axle end of the CV(if that makes any sense) I'm wondering if running a single joint on both ends of my front shaft would be better than the cv in there? The truck doesn't see any street time so vibrations are not a big deal. Anyone have any input on this?

I have broken quite a few toyota joints, (4.3l, 40's) and i have found that welding the cap in helps alot. If your drivelines are at a severe angle and axlewrap or the suspension dropping out makes the angle worse, try making your pinion angle a less severe and adding a limit strap. That helped my rear out alot. There is also a new Trail Gear U-joint that has a beefier center for $40 that I want to try.

Ya I put those full circle snap rings on so I don't throw caps anymore but I did think about welding them.
As for the pinion angle I'm running a high pinion so my angle is almost nothing. The shafts don't bind at all at full droop or anything. I looked into the heavy duty creeper joints that trail gear has but I wanted to try the single joint front driveshaft idea first

Where are you finding the full circle snap rings for the Yota U-Joints and CV's?

My front isn't getting any axle wrap so I don't think that is a problem.
I just went to a hardware store and took a joint with me and found some full circle snap rings. I'm pretty sure they are the 1" ones.

Are you running chromo shafts up front?
