1975 hilux slow no money build up. (AKA Carl)
i bought this 75 Hilux for $600 about 3 months ago may 07 and i am poor. which means this build up will be some what slow but bare with me it should be interesting.
![]() ![]() it has a 20r and a 5 speed. bone stock drives very nice runs incredible. i got it up to 95mph on the freeway on flat ground. road tripped to Reno which is about a 350 mile round trip no problems. i daily drive him (i call him Carl). i put a folding seat out of a Volvo station wagon in the back to make room for friends. i got lots of faces from people on the strip and everyone thinks its a Datsun. He over heated a lil on the way up but we were doing 80mph. some people will hate me for this but... ![]() ![]() the toys in the back ground are from the local Toyota club. ![]() i chopped the top off, before you get to angry the top goes back on via convertible top clamps off of a supra i scrounged at pick n pull. with the top on it looks stock again. i just bobbed the bed today 9 inches it turned out really well. ![]() ![]() i drilled out the tack welds on the side and cut along the bottom of the bed and the back section slid right off. then cut approx 8 inches of the bed walls and 4 inches out of the frame that overhang and slid it back together, then drilled holes for new tack welds and looks like i never touched it sept for the 9 inches less. i have the rear 87 toy axle and a set of 6 log wagon wheels but still need the front axle transfer case power steering Chevy leafs and some 31s, anyone know of any for cheap. i am trying to decide on the engine that will go in him, leaning towards 22re but would love to have the supra 7mge or 7mget. later this week i am painting it semi gloss black ill keep everyone posted and i hope to have it 4wheel drive soon so i don't feel like an idiot driving it around. i am also thinking boat sides? so i can slide over rocks. i want it to be an ant. my goal is to have it on 33s, as low as possible, locked front and rear low gears interior cage protection around the whole bottom, and enough power to run 33s at 70 on the freeway. let me know what you think. Juse

the top is temporary as is the roll bar but it keeps the cops off of my butt. oh i also built some tube half doors but they need cloth before i put them on.
you are not the only person that said that but the paint is in pretty bad shape and i dont even know what color it is? uren? nicotene? ugly yellow! i think black will look good. i want to find the stripes again though and get some vintage look back on it. anyone have a parts truck that i can get the doors off of for cheap.

good old carl. The bed came out pretty darn good. I'm also happy to see Elsie in the background up there. Now it's time to do the stuff that matters...front axle and transfer case would be nice soon.

Carl is an ugly name and you have to admit its an ugly truck. it actualy came from a TV show i like called "Auqa Teen Hunger Force" Carl is the most white trash slobby italian guy from brooklin you would ever meet. hence the name Carl. he is like a pug dog so ugly its cute.

if it wasnt smog exempt i would have never bought it. here in cali it is impossible to find smog exempt toyotas unless they are 2wd.
the body is in pretty good condition it will take minor body work to get it ready for paint, also because it is going to be a trail truck the paint is a semi gloss black to hide the body damage. i hate the rules here i wish i could jam a tree in the combustion chamber and call it good but green piece and tree lovers Fukd that up. dam hippies

semi gloss is better then high gloss, plus there isnt much body damage on the truck yet... lets see how long that lasts.

Try this website. www.paintscratch.com. I use it all the time. It lists most paint codes back to the 50's.

i am puting the truck on hold this weekend because i entered the Tuff truck comp in Grassvalley next weekend. i picked up an 85 fulsize bronco with a 351m. it runs nice if it wasnt a Ford i would be sad to distroy it. iv got to get it ready lose some of the weight make it loud rattle can random stuff on it you know important things.
if anyone wants to come it starts at 7pm on saturday at the Nevada county Fair Grounds. if anyone wants the leftovers of the truck after the fair let me know its probably going to PnP

Danielle got an amazing video of you sliding on the grill of that thing... and the raider has a piston sticking out of the side of the block. It's amazing it's still running.

I Painted Carl
it turned out really good for a $50 spray on paint. my buddy has a gun and had only used it once so it was a bit of an expearament. it has a texter to it but i like it. i painted everything except the roof so the roof is still yellow hopfully it looks okay with the roof back on. its a semi gloss black not to shinny.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() as soon as i get a 3rd member i will put the 6 lug rear on and i found a fj60 axle for the front .
