2nd gen 4runner chop top

Thought I would post a few pics of my chopped top 2nd gen just to get some more pics out there. I know when I was researching this, it was hard to find and decent pics of this mod.
It's not 100% done yet but getting close. The rear window is fixed but removable and the rear wiper, squirter, heated glass and third brake light are all functional.

Sweet, I've been waiting to see a chop like that. Does it leak?

Why did you leave the window reg tabs on the bottom of the glass? Great looking runner. How are the Creepy Crawlers working for you?

Those are not the factory tabs. Those are my quick remove glass tabs. They unbolt and I can have my glass out in about 1 min. I still need to finish a cover piece for the bottom of the glass to make it look a little more sanitary.
Creepy Crawlers work very good but the highway drive above 60 mph really sucks. The tires feel like they go from round to an oval shape.

Here's a pic of the Creepy Crawlers after grooving. They work much better now.

I didn't weigh it but all the pieces I have left over equal only about 100lbs. Better than nothing.

Nice Job on the chop. I miss mine. I bobbed the back nine inch's and had a canvas top.

Don't worry about the strength if the roof after the chop. The rear section holds up very well even with a canvas top.

Nice job. Really like how you kept the rear glass.

I know the wheel wells are in the way, but do you think it would have been possible to keep the functionality of the rear glass and allow it to lower 6" or so?

Probably not worth the effort, as your solution is the best one I have seen. Removable, leak proof, clean lines when finished.... just curious since you've obviously had it all apart.

Also... any pics or details on how you made the tail gate work? Looks like you kept the original.

I could have made the window go up and down fairly easy but figured it would be to much work for just a few inches.

The tailgate is all stock with the glass removed. Hopefully soon to build a swing out tailgate with a tire carrier integrated into it and dump the beat up stocker.

Cool runner. I was going to do a canvas top but figured it would be a pain to get stuff in and out of it, so I chose the other route. I was going to bob it also but now have plans of going 1 ton axles and bigger tires, which to clear I will scoot the rear axle back a ways which will help with the overhang problem.

looks great. i've been tossing around this idea with mine for a while... not sure i want to lose the room though. i like having everything out of the elements. i still might someday, depending on how long that glass stays intact.

have you looked into fitting interior panels? not sure if you care about that type of thing, but it would be nice to have it looking almost factory still... or at least not hacked up. again, nice work.

I noticed the pic with the back seat in... How comfortable is it for a passanger? I know that wheeling aspecialy in the back isnt the best anyway but is the glass really close to the head?

Great looking cut im doing this next summer after the rain in the NW is not everyday haha
